We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylah Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As a young girl, I’ve always pictured myself in the perfect suit and heels, briefcase in hand. I had a huge fascination with briefcases–they just looked so official to me! My mother and grandmother always let me dress myself, and that freedom really sparked my love for clothing. From there, it grew into a love for shopping, which then turned into an obsession with designer shows and NYFW.

At one point, I thought I wanted to design my own haute couture pieces until I realized that making clothes was an entirely different process. Eventually, I landed at Nordstrom, and that’s where I discovered my passion for styling. I started researching where I could fit into the fashion world in a way that felt true to me. I loved putting looks together for women, and the feedback from my regular shoppers was incredible. They’d always come back telling me about the compliments they got, and that’s when I felt I could help women feel confident and beautiful with great style.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Fashion and Wardrobe Stylist, and I’ve always taken pride in how passionate I am about putting together outfits. I’m intentional about learning who my client is– what makes her feel confident and how she wants to express herself. I have real knack for getting clients into pieces they’ve never worn before or didn’t think they’d like. Seeing them light up when they realize they love it– that’s one of the biggest rewards for me.

Launching my styling services has been such a proud moment, and I’m excited to see where “StyledbyKy” goes. Every Sunday, my mother and I meet up to talk about our goals and what we need to accomplish in the coming weeks or months. This business was one of those goals. It definitely wasn’t easy to get here– there was a tome I worried no one would take me seriously and second guessed myself a lot which lead to so much procrastination. But I realized my gift is what makes room for me, and as long as I took myself seriously, nothing else mattered.

“StyledbyKy” has something for every woman–from the everyday mom to the powerhouse businesswoman and everything in between. Whether you need advice on the latest trends, help clearing your closet, styling existing pieces, accompanied shopping with me or a head-turning look for a photoshoot or event, I want to be there to make sure you feel confident, stylish and ready for any occasion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday

We kick off in style with a black truck pick-up — because my friends deserve the best. First stop: Bistro 31 in Highland Park Village for a chic brunch, followed by some shopping and a stroll through Market Highland Park. Sweet treat break at Bird Bakery for their famous Hibiscus Arnold Palmer, then we slow it down with a refreshing yoga class at Jungle Dallas to set the tone for the week!

Tuesday

Spa vibes all day at Thompson Dallas. 60 minute massages, glowing facials, an amazing infrared sauna sesh, and mimosas (with just a pinch of orange juice) in the jacuzzi. Afterward, it’s over to Le’Fruit for mani/pedis, a dose of art at TF Art Gallery, and end the night with a cozy, refreshing dinner at Greenpoint Seafood & Oyster Bar.

Wednesday

Caffeine boost with a Honey Matcha from Khroma Coffee in Deep Ellum, then get our steps in on Katy Trail. Bestie bonding moment: getting permanent bracelets at Nina Beranato. After a little recharge, we’re out again — starting with midweek grooves at Babou’s and wrapping up at Seek Dallas for those Wednesday-night city vibes

Thursday

Wine run at Jimmy’s Food Store to stock up for the weekend. A friendly match with Jamel the Tennis Coach, lunch at Las Palmas, and then hands-on perfume-making class at Coco & Shea – leaving us with our own signature & customized scent!

Friday

Morning stroll through Dallas Farmers Market, then a seafood feast at Red Claw (specifically the location in Dallas). Evening starts with cocktails and bites at Monkey Bar on 9, followed by sunset rooftop vibes at Catbird.

Saturday

Morning music and coffee at Tribal Cafe in Bishop Arts, dessert stop at Le Rêve, and pre-GNO champagne toasts at Coupes Dallas. Dinner at Evelyn’s (it’s perfect for a good photo op), then we dance our way through Greenlight Social, Blum and Cash Cow, ending (if our heels survive) with after hours at 5AM.

Sunday

Never leave Dallas without a proper Sunday Funday. Brunch at Miami Vibes in Plano, then straight into day party mode — Kanva, Nowhere Deep Ellum and finally Hyde Dallas to close out the week with a bang!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My first shoutout will always go to my mother and grandmother! They taught me to believe in myself, to express myself, and never to change for anyone. They’re the reason I have the confidence I walk with today–I honestly don’t know where I’d be without them. I have an amazing best friend who has been with me through thick & thin and supports me through everything I do!
I also want to give credit to the New HER group–three powerful, inspiring women who’ve helped me really go for entrepreneurship. They’ve opened my eyes to how real the “imposter syndrome” is, they hold me accountable, push me beyond my comfort zone, and they remind me that I’m capable of more than I sometimes believe. I’m forever grateful for them, they’re like my mentors.
