We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyla Kemp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyla, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
As a content creator, I’ve definitely had moments where I felt like giving up. There were times when the money wasn’t enough, or my engagement was so low that I questioned whether my content was even worth watching. I’ve taken breaks—sometimes up to three months—just to figure out if this was something I still wanted to pursue.

But every time, I come back to it. Why? Because I genuinely love creating. I had to reframe my mindset and stop obsessing over views, likes, or follows. It’s easy to get caught up in numbers, but the truth is—you never know who’s watching or how your content is impacting someone.

What helped me push past those slumps was realizing that content creation offers more than just online metrics. I started going to events, meeting incredible people, and building a community. When you surround yourself with others who are thriving in this space, their energy rubs off on you.

At the end of the day, I create because it brings me joy. If that joy also leads to friendships, opportunities, or income—amazing. But the core of it is love for the craft. I stay motivated by the support of my friends, and even seeing other creators—whether I know them or not—stay consistent and passionate, inspires me to keep going.

My advice to any creator standing at that crossroads is this: if you truly love what you do, don’t give up. If your heart and soul are still telling you to keep going, trust that. You hear stories all the time about people creating content for 10 years before they saw real traction. Everyone’s journey is different, but one thing is guaranteed—if you stay consistent, you’re already ahead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a content creator, my work mainly revolves around fashion—with touches of beauty and lifestyle. I wouldn’t say there’s a single thing that sets me apart—honestly, it’s just me. I bring my personality, aesthetic, and vibe into everything I post. My content is soft but confident, elevated but relatable. I love clean visuals, cozy edits, and showing the small, dreamy parts of everyday life.

What I’m most proud of is the opportunities I’ve gotten to connect with brands and amazing people. I never take those moments for granted. And I’ve really started to enjoy pushing the limits of my editing skills and building a community that actually cares about more than just what I wear—they care about how I show up.

Getting here definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve dealt with self-doubt, perfectionism, and the frustration of stunted growth. But one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your success is literally in your hands. So many of the opportunities I’ve had came from simply showing up—posting a video, engaging with someone’s content, taking a risk. It reminds me that if I never tried, I wouldn’t have made it this far. And that pushes me to keep going.

I’ve also learned to let go of the pressure to be perfect. Some of my most “imperfect” posts—ones I nearly didn’t share—have performed the best. That taught me a valuable lesson: you don’t need to be perfect, you just need to be present.

What I hope people take away when they land on my page is a little joy. I want them to feel inspired to dress up, to romanticize their lives, to forget their worries for a moment and enjoy the beauty in the everyday. If someone leaves my page feeling more confident, soft, or seen—I’ve done my job.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure they experienced every side of Dallas—from cozy local spots to fun outings that show off the city’s personality. Here’s how the week would go:

Day 1 – Carrollton Kickoff
We’d start the trip in Carrollton with a stop at 85°C Bakery Café. It’s one of my favorite places to get milk buns—super cozy and always hits the spot. We’d explore the Korean shopping plazas nearby, maybe pop into some beauty stores, and grab lunch at GEN Korean BBQ or Dami Sushi.

Day 2 – Chill in Plano
We’d head up to Plano for a coffee crawl—Mudleaf Coffee and 1418 Coffee House are two gems. The vibe is perfect for catching up and relaxing. We’d probably walk around Legacy West after, do a little shopping, and grab dinner at Haywire or Tommy Bahama (they have a great rooftop!).

Day 3 – Downtown & Artsy Day
This day would be more adventure-filled—we’d hit Deep Ellum to check out murals, live music, and shops. Brunch at AllGood Cafe, then later, we’d visit Klyde Warren Park for food trucks, skyline views, and painting in the park. If we’re feeling artsy, maybe stop by the Dallas Museum of Art. (bonus: walk to AT&T Discovery District at night)

Day 4 – Nature + Reset
We’d start with a walk or bike ride around White Rock Lake, followed by a peaceful afternoon picnic. If we wanted to stay active but chill, we could do outdoor yoga or the Dallas Arboretum—it’s beautiful year-round and has that romantic, dreamy feel.

Day 5 – Girls’ Night Out
Dinner at Te Deseo or The Henry—somewhere with good food and a fun vibe. Then drinks in Uptown or Legacy Hall if we want live music. It’s the night we dress up and just feel good.

Day 6 – Adventure Day in Grand Prairie
We’d spend the day at Bolder Adventure Park in Grand Prairie—one of the most fun spots for letting loose and trying something new. We’d climb, zipline, glide down the tubing slides, try the ropes course, and even test out the synthetic ice skating. It’s the kind of place where you can act like a kid again and just have fun. After all that activity, we’d grab dinner nearby and relax after a full day of adventure.

Day 7 – Reflect & Relax
To wrap it up, we’d spend the day just enjoying each other’s company. Maybe grab brunch and smoothies at All Day Tribal Cafe, then hang out at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve for one last peaceful walk. It’s the perfect slow ending to a week full of fun.

DFW has this cool way of feeling both exciting and homey. I’d want my best friend to leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and a little more in love with life.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly wouldn’t be where I am without the support and love from a few key people in my life. My best friend, my partner, and especially my mom have been my biggest cheerleaders.

My mom, in particular, deserves so much recognition. She always envisioned a more traditional path for me—like nursing or getting a sports scholarship to a top university. So when I told her I wanted to pursue something more creative like modeling and content creation, I know it was a big shift for her. Even though she was skeptical at first, she never held me back. In fact, she’s been one of my strongest supporters ever since. She believes in me wholeheartedly, and that’s a big part of why I keep going. I want to make her proud. I want to buy her a house one day—maybe even a yacht—and show her that betting on me wasn’t in vain.

I also have to give a special shoutout to my friend Mikayla Hicks. She’s a fellow creator I met through Threads, and since then, we’ve become inseparable. She only started her journey in December, but she’s been one of the most consistent, hardworking, and inspiring people I know. Watching her chase every opportunity that comes her way pushes me to do the same. I have no doubt she’s going to be huge one day, and I’m grateful to walk this path alongside her.

At the end of the day, my journey hasn’t been one I’ve walked alone. It’s the people in my life—both online and off—who’ve kept me grounded, inspired, and motivated to keep going.
