We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyka Drake and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyka, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What was my thought process behind starting my business?

Honestly, it was all God. I felt unfulfilled in my corporate healthcare role and prayed for clarity on my true purpose. One night, in my sleep, God revealed it to me:

*”Kyka, you’ve always been the person people turn to, friends, family, even strangers, seeking guidance, support, and advice. Helping others has always been your passion. Why not turn it into your purpose and become a Life Coach?”*

At the time, I had no knowledge of life coaching or running a business, so I questioned if this was truly the right path. But as a woman who moves by faith, I trusted God’s direction. I immersed myself in research, took courses, earned my certification, and learned everything I could about starting a business. I was scared, but I chose to walk in faith, and that decision changed everything.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a certified Life & Motivation Coach dedicated to helping individuals break through mental roadblocks and step into becoming better versions of themselves. My coaching focuses on strengthening personal growth, self-awareness, and mindset while instilling the accountability needed for lasting transformation.

What sets me apart is my authenticity and relatability. I create a judgment-free space where clients feel safe to be vulnerable, knowing they’re supported by someone who has walked a similar path. I’ve faced hardships firsthand: divorce, homelessness, financial struggles, mental and emotional abuse, toxic relationships, abandonment issues, lack of clarity, and personal battles. These experiences have shaped my ability to guide others with empathy, honesty, and a no-nonsense approach. I am more than just a coach; I am a sister, a mother, a best friend, and your biggest supporter. While I bring warmth and encouragement, I also challenge my clients with uncomfortable yet necessary questions to spark deep reflection and true self-awareness. Additionally, I incorporate meditation techniques into my sessions, helping clients gain inner peace and clarity.

Unlike traditional coaching that often prioritizes career goals, my approach goes deeper. I empower individuals to cultivate meaningful relationships, build resilience, and achieve profound self-improvement. Through Kyka Life Coaching, I am creating a movement, one that extends beyond coaching to include motivational speaking, inspirational apparel, podcasting, and publishing.

What I am most proud of is my perseverance. Despite the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, fluctuating clientele, financial uncertainty, self-doubt, and roadblocks, I have remained steadfast. People seek out my services because they connect with my realness. My journey has not been easy, and at times, it still isn’t. Business can be unpredictable, and external voices may try to shake your confidence. However, I firmly believe that the only opinion that truly matters is your own belief in yourself.

I have overcome immense challenges, from being homeless and broke to facing rejection from jobs I was qualified for. Instead of succumbing to defeat, I sought alternative ways to rebuild myself. I invested in my education, sought mentors, reinvested tax refunds into my business, and continuously found ways to reinvent myself. I recently completed my book, *A Life Coach’s Journey Through: Chakra Affirmations and Personal Empowerment*, which will be published on Amazon. Additionally, I launched a Shopify store as another avenue stream that offers all sorts of things.

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that every day won’t be perfect, but your mindset determines how you navigate it. Success requires self-belief, resilience, and the courage to keep going even when the journey is tough. Not everyone will understand your vision, and some people may not support you once they see you surpassing their expectations of you. You will lose friends along the way, but that is part of growth. The most important thing is to never let self-doubt hold you back.

I want the world to know that I am human. I make mistakes. I take losses. But through it all, I continue to rise, and I am here to help others do the same.

At Kyka Drake Life Coaching, I help individuals and teams unlock their full potential by transforming their mindset, communication, and confidence. With over nine years in the healthcare industry, starting as a patient service representative and growing into leadership and performance training, I discovered my passion for guiding others toward personal and professional breakthroughs.

My coaching journey began in my early 30s after facing personal struggles that led me to therapy and a renewed sense of purpose. I know firsthand how powerful mindset shifts can be in overcoming challenges, building self-love, and embracing confidence. Now, I use my experience to help others navigate their own transformations, whether through one-on-one coaching, corporate team-building, or speaking engagements. At the heart of my coaching is the belief that every person has the power to reshape their thoughts, break through limitations, and create a fulfilling life. I provide tools, strategies, and motivation to help my clients step into their power, whether they’re professionals looking to lead with confidence, teams aiming for stronger collaboration, or individuals seeking to live with more joy and self-assurance.

I want the world to know that Kyka Drake Life Coaching is more than just coaching; it’s a movement toward bold, unapologetic personal growth. Whether you’re looking for clarity, motivation, or a complete mindset shift, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d make sure they experienced the absolute best of the city: great food, exciting nightlife, and unforgettable moments. I’m horrible at remembering places I have attended, but here it goes (lol).

Day 1:

– Brunch: Kick things off at a trendy café with amazing coffee and avocado toast. (I love coffee & avocados) lol.
– Afternoon: Take a stroll through a scenic park to unwind from travel. Just having girl talk and enjoying the view. All of my friends know that I love being in nature. I enjoy walking & jogging through the park.
– Evening: Have a casual dinner at a local restaurant in Arlington, followed by rooftop cocktails with city skyline views in Dallas, like HQ Dallas Rooftop.

Day 2:

– Morning: 30 min. meditation before we start our day to clear our minds.
– Lunch: Try a must-have local dish that I’ve heard about.
– Afternoon: Attend a local bar that I frequent to introduce my friend to the area.
– Evening: Wine tasting or craft cocktails at a speakeasy-style bar like Gingers in Dallas.

Day 3:

– Whatever my friend has in mind.

Day 4:

– Breakfast: Classic diner or gourmet bakery for fresh pastries. (We are foodies).
– Lunch: BBQ joint she wants to try or a seafood restaurant.
– Afternoon: A Starbucks run. My friend loves coffee just as much as I do.
– Dinner: A fine-dining experience somewhere that has been recommended for me to try.

Day 5:

– Morning: A yoga class in Mansfield or spa morning for some self-care.
– Afternoon: Back to my place for relaxation & cocktails.
– Evening: Downtown Fort Worth bar hopping.

Day 6:

– Brunch: Boozy brunch with mimosas and live music. (whatever we find)
– Afternoon: Shopping at local malls in Arlington.
– Evening: Inviting my other friend out to meet my best friend.
All of us, having a night out at LUXX hookah lounge in Grand Prairie.

Day 7:

– Morning: Cook breakfast at home.
– Brunch: One last meal at a restaurant she wants to try before heading to the airport.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My support system has always been my homegirls Katrina, Krystal, and Stephanie, along with my daughters Deaja and Ra’Ziya, and my sisters Amber, DeVona, and Aeisha. I also have to give love to my cousin Tracy and her mother, Barbara, who, even in her 70s, somehow keeps up with everything I post on social media and all the latest updates about my business (lol).

I’m grateful for my former colleagues, Angel, Lametric, and Cindy, who always believed in me and reminded me how brave I was for chasing my dreams. My mentor, Maria, a fellow coach based in Africa, has been a guiding light, motivating me spiritually and mentally. I can’t forget Eric Thomas (ET), the motivational speaker. I admire his rawness, power, and relentless drive. His words push me to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles.

Of course, I have to mention my mom. While she hasn’t been my biggest supporter, mainly because she didn’t understand why I’d leave a stable corporate job to start my own business, I know that my willpower, strength, and courage all come from her.

There are so many more friends and family members who have been there for me and deserve a shoutout. Even those who started off supporting me but later fell off due to their own limitations or doubts, I still acknowledge them. Because even naysayers and doubters fuel my fire, giving me the drive to keep pushing forward.

At the end of the day, my goal is to become the first millionaire in my family, to help others step into their best selves, and to be in a position where I can always give back, building a legacy of wealth, empowerment, and impact for generations to come.
