We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Springman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a military family, I wanted to be able to capture photos of my kids for my family back home. When we left CA to our new duty station I was 4 months pregnant with twins and my son was just barely 2 years old. So needless to say my family was about to be thousands of miles away when we would go from a family of 3 to a family of 5 in just months, in a state where we knew absolutely no one. We had tried hiring photographers to capture these special moments in the past and I was always disappointed in the outcome, I felt awkward being in front of the camera. I never intended to start my own business when I decided to purchase my first high end camera , it was something I wanted to do for myself. But once I learned who to work my camera, it really became something I enjoyed and wanted to share with others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a newborn and wedding photographer serving all Dallas areas and more. I love being able to capture the 2 most important moments in life, marriage and the joyous arrival of a new addition to families. When I meet with my brides for wedding consultations I really want to get to know them, and how I can help this magical day as easy for them as possible. I am not just their wedding photographer, I’m their new best friend and I’m here to help. When brides need help finding venues, hair & makeup artists, decor rentals or any other vendor they have yet to hire I send them contacts to reach out to so they can choose the vendor that’s right for them. I put this same level of time in to each newborn session, I spend hours putting together color palettes and props for each session to ensure each experience is unique for each family. Welcoming a new baby in to the house is an adjustment for both parents and siblings, so when my families arrive they are free to nap, watch tv or get a meal while I shoot their session. Being a new parent is hard and exhausting, so I don’t require my clients to bring props or their own supplies, everything we need in at the studio and prepped and ready for them before they arrive. I will always ensure that each family bridal or newborn are satisfied and happy with our end result. My clients are family, they are not just a payment fee to me. I tell all my clients “welcome to the family!” And it’s said will love and endearment. We hope to expand our family each year and become apart of all their special moments!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I definitely love and recommend taking anyone who comes to visit down to Waco ! We love going and exploring the magnolia court yard! They have amazing cupcakes, and they have food trucks of all kinds there! It’s a cute place to go wander around on a nice spring/summer day to play games they have out in the court yard, lounge chairs and tables if you feel like people watching while you enjoy delicious food and drinks .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Last year when we decided to move our entire family and my thriving photography business from Temecula CA , to Rockwall TX it was one of the biggest stressors for me. As I had a great client base and had a ton of word of mouth referrals from my clients I was scared to move and start all over from the ground up. As most photographers know , having a well known client base is how our businesses survive and how we grow. Once we were settled in and loving our new home town I met Maeghan Freijo, the owner and wedding coordinator of Ivory & Sage weddings, in one of the community groups here in Dallas where I was invited to do a styled shoot out in Tyler tx, it was an opportunity for me to meet other vendors in the wedding business and promote my style of wedding photography. Because of the work I was able to capture during that styled shoot I booked 3 weddings this past year and have more on the horizon. Maeghan was absolutely fantastic to work with and we continue to send referrals to each other.
