We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal & DJ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started when I found out I was pregnant with DJ. I was tasked with not just creating life but giving him the best of me. After little support from his father I had to create a way to teach him financial literally while producing a steady income outside of the two jobs I work to make ends meet. So I invested my time in vending because the over head cost was low and it wasn’t something I had to show up to everyday but could still produce lucrative income. Then the journey started May 31st, 2020 mid Covid when half America was pretty much closed. That down time allowed me the opportunity to study vending and see the matrix of it being a recession proof multi billion dollar cash business. Therefore, the evolution of DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC was create and has been actively growing in the face of entrepreneurship.
I am super elated to introduce DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC. This is my very first vending machine business and I am excited to bring you along this journey with me and my team.
As a baby my mother and I started my vending machine business and I want my journey as an underage CEO to inspire You. In a nut shell, my frugal mother think and say I am too expensive: and wanted to teach me the value of a dollar. This is to ensure I become financially literate, independent and economically sound.
As a single mother every dollar counts to maintain our dwelling. So my passion grow quickly when I saw alignment in starting this vending business from the boot straps. As a mother your child watch’s and learns from your routine and action so I had to be intentional to change the narrative of how DJ saw me exchange time for money.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Outside of DJ’s Snack Bizz LLC, I work as a full time serial entrepreneur hosting Air bnb properties as well as running one of Dallas black owned party rental services. Nothing about starting anything new is easy but the power of the unknown forces you to jump outside your comfort zone and build with people who have masted whatever your seeking to learn.
I want the world to know that the scariest thing is not failure. The beauty of failure is learning, growing and evolving to re strategize approach things from a different angel until you reach your intended goal successfully. Invest in yourself it pays the best interest that no one can ever take away.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would visit Tha Spot DTX , the island spot for open mic for a soulful fun activity, Then we would visit the freemen for more live band activity. The next day we would wake up for brunch at kitchen and cocktails. Then on to sandega for the best backed potatoes in Dallas. That Sunday we would go to lava cantina for the live band.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give credit to the homeland security office space that trusted the business and allowed our vision and machines into their location. I’d also like to shout out Karl Watson owner, serial entrepreneur and my big brother for constantly challenging me to do better and take risk that I normally wouldn’t take.
