We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Crouse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We are both extremely entrepreneurial-oriented and we have both been self-employed to some degree our entire adult lives. Now, more than ever, we both want and need flexibility in our lives, which has driven us to expand our entrepreneurial endeavors. Haus of Crouse is a labor of love between two women who want to not only share their lives together, but also be able to work together. Krystal has an incredible talent for decor, design, and carpentry, so this particular venture was a no-brainer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Both Anna and I have always been artists. From drawing, to painting, to building, to photography…we literally do it all. We are building the Haus of Crouse brand to encompass all of our passions. What sets us apart is our constant drive to improve: creatively; the quality of our work; and in the execution of our art. We are also constantly exploring new ways to create. Our brains literally never stop. We have countless notebooks all over the house, in our vehicles, at the studio, in Anna’s thousands of bags…all full of ideas. We are incredibly proud of our ability to take any number of scribbled down ideas and make them a reality. We don’t just think about it…we DO it.
Being an artist is never an easy road, though. The value of art is so subjective; imposter syndrome is REAL; and, as perfectionists, we are always battling the feeling that we can do better (even when everyone else thinks the work is amazing). However, Anna and I bring each other balance. We have both learned that, while we were always inclined to “do it ourselves” and not ask for help, having a fully supportive partner, both in business and in life, makes all the difference. We do still struggle with taking a day off, but we’re working on it. Knowing when to take a break has been the hardest lesson for both of us.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest, we don’t get out much. We tend to stay in when we are home because we live so much of our lives on the go. We do enjoy the Stockyards when we do venture out, though.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Haus of Crouse is a work of heart for both myself and my fiancè, Anna. The Haus of Crouse brand (which encompasses more than just home decor) is just another facet of the life we are building together.
