We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristy Bolin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristy, what do you attribute your success to?
I’m really at the beginning stages and I believe that each time I learn a new painting or mixed media technique, that is a small success. I believe that giving oneself credit for the small things and staying humble are huge contributing factors to success. I try not to compare myself to anyone else, but to get inspiration from others by attending art shows, art museums and festivals. I never duplicate anything. I have my own unique style.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art, specifically painting is my hobby. I dabbled in it for a number of years before finally putting more focus on it in 2020. My main profession of 12 years is in Cyber/Information Security and it’s where I spend most of my time during the weekdays. Believe it or not, an artistic ability is complimentary to that field. You have to delve into granular details and come up with creative solutions in an ever-changing landscape. Continual learning and getting better at mixing colors, applying textures, and using the best paintbrush size/type for the effort is similar to the diligence required to get into the details of security and stay on top of things.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I wouldn’t necessarily have an itinerary. I would allow them to choose, but I would offer ideas such as the Deep Ellum Arts district and Uptown Dallas as places to explore the culture. I would certainly also recommend the Ft Worth Stockyards area since it is so different, and has such a laid back style that I cherish the most.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Close family and friends who follow my pages and give feedback, along with other artists and organizations are invaluable. Those close to me really want me to succeed and that means so much to me! Art is very specific to individual tastes, and I love finding out what each person likes. I won’t try to name everyone here, but you know who you are. Everyone who follows and likes even a small number of posts is contributing more than they think.
