Meet Kristin Harris | Cosmetics and Candle Maker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business began with thinking of my mom and how it made her feel. I want to make others feel good as well. My business is focused on self-love and self-care. I want people to use my products and practice how important it is to love and put their selves first. I want people to focus on their well-being and recognize that true love starts within.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Love Blvd is primarily focused on the need to ensure that love starts within. This company is based on positivity and how one can have self-confidence and loving qualities by treating themselves kind. We believe that if an individual is able to love themselves properly, then they will be able to reciprocate it back by giving and receiving love. As the founder, I am proud of formulating products that are key to aromatherapy to help promote relaxation, elevate moods, and over-all enhance the well-being. My mom was the one who encouraged me along this journey but it was God’s words that were inspiring and provided great confirmation. 1 Corinthians 13:2 reads “But if I don’t have love, I am nothing….” I believe that we should do all things with love however, to do that you must love yourself. Having a business is not easy but rather challenging. Creativity is more than a craft, it’s more like being a scientist. Challenges within this business are exciting because I get to try out different things and discover what I can come up with. Sometimes I test out different ingredients, utilize different supplies, and use different tools to see what works best. It is also uplifting when I read or hear comments that are received from customers when they use my products. A lesson that I have learned is to be your authentic self. There will be thousands of people that may be doing the same business as you but on the flip side, there is only one of you so be true to yourself. People can identify those that are real and they will want to purchase from them. Put yourself aside and don’t compare yourself or your business to anyone. Be unique and have a brand that people will be able to identify with. I want the world to know that although a perfect person does not exist, every day we can choose our selves over and over again. Choose you regardless of the obstacles that you’re facing. When you wake up, be thankful and show gratitude throughout the day. Be generous to yourself and know that you are worthy. Light a candle and speak words of affirmations. Get near a diffuser with pure essential oils and meditate on God’s words. Show your skin love by bathing or showering with moisturizing soap. Hydrate your skin by using a massage candle/oil or body butter. There are so much you can do to treat yourself with love. Don’t wait for someone to do it for you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday- Upon my best friend arrival, we would go to my home for her to rest and get situated. Afterwards, we would have dinner at a Sushi and Hibachi Bar to socialize and play catch up. Tuesday- We would eat a light breakfast at home. In the afternoon, we would take a visit to Bolder Adventure Park to have some fun and enjoy the attractions! Next, we would simmer down and go to the Arlington Heights for dinner.
Wednesday- We both enjoy entertainment and music so we would go to a musical play such as “The Wizard of Oz” or “The Lion King”. Afterwards, we would go have dinner at “The Capital Grille”.
Thursday- It’s time to shop!! We would venture out and go shop at local businesses and attend a couple of Farmer Markets. Later we would catch a movie to watch “The Woman King”, and end the night with me cooking seafood boil for dinner.
Friday- We would go have brunch at “Commissary” within Downtown Dallas. We would then go walking downtown and later we would visit the “Escapology Escape Rooms” at the Victory Park.
Saturday- Spa day! We would go to Maroc Hamam Spa and treat our skin and body with a “De-Stress Retreat”, which includes body scrub, body massage, and a facial. Then we would head over to the Candle Nail Spa to get a mani and pedi. Later that evening, we would go to “The Library” for dinner, cocktails, and live music.
Sunday- We would attend a bible based church, afterwards have brunch at “First Watch”, and go home to relax and rest before her flight back home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In 2012, I began to make accessories, soap, and body butters. During that time, it was a hobby; I wanted to create something that was natural and that was good for sensitive skin. My mother Rosalyn Brown, was my biggest supporter and she wanted me to make more. She said that she liked my products and how they made her feel. She didn’t have any bad reactions and thought that I should make more. When she departed, I stopped creating. One day, I remembered my mom’s words and I decided to start back. In addition, I wanted to try something that my mom left behind. When I was young, she bought a candle kit and started making some. She loved candles. My mom preferred them over turning on the lights and our home always smelled good. I found her candle kit and decided that I wanted to learn candle making. Incorporating candles is a great addition to the business as they can be used for relaxation, meditation, spa, etc.

I would also like to recognize my son Kamren D. Smith. The mother and son bond that we have is a part of the reason why I choose to not give up on things. My strength and determination has grown because of him and I thank God for giving me the gift of unconditional love. Kamren is a blessing and he is also a great part of my success.
