We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Brittan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without great risk there is no great reward. TX Creamery began out of necessity. In 2018 we were opening a new Hey Sugar Candy Store in College Station and did not have an ice cream supplier that could deliver to us. We decided to start our own ice cream manufacturing facility to supply to all our Hey Sugar Candy Stores.
We knew nothing about manufacturing ice cream. We took a risk, educated ourselves quickly, and created TX Creamery. With hard work and a bit of luck TX Creamery became a success!
Risk taking can be scary but is exhilarating. You have to be willing to lose at something you are risking but I have always found I learn more from my failed risks than my successful risks.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our brand and story:
When a quest to find the world’s best tasting, creamiest luxury ice cream left a mother-daughter equestrian duo in Texas empty handed, the pair took matters into their own hands and made it themselves. TX Creamery is Texas-born and expertly churned premium ice cream made with the highest quality ingredients and flavors as big and bold as the Texas sky. Velvety, creamy and decidedly decadent, TX Creamery elevates everyday life into deliciously indulgent special occasions. It’s Texas by the Scoop™.
I am most proud that my daughter and I were able to collaborate on the creation of TX Creamery. Kelsie had just graduated from SMU with a business degree and was excited to put her skills and education to work. We had been making ice cream for Hey Sugar Candy Stores since 2018 but had not branded it for the retail market until 2021 while finding alternative business ideas while shut down due to the pandemic. My neighbor, Brandon Coleman guided us in the process and helped TX Creamery become the brand it is today.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an outdoor enthusiast so our first stop would be a hike at Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve. Love the views and serenity of hiking the forest within the city. We would make a stop at Flower Child or Mint on Lovers Lane. My favorite lunch spots! As a history buff, I would schedule a JFK tour. Fascinating history tour. Dallas Farmers Market is always a weekend fun event followed by a walk on the Katy Trail. In line with my history obsession, we would dine at The Mayor’s House in Bishop Arts and walk around the eclectic, lively area after dinner. If it is Spring or Fall, the Dallas Arboretum would not be missed! To rest and relax and have a unique experience we would spend the day getting treatments at King Spa and have a Korean feast after.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
