We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristian Capel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, it was about creating something for myself, something I could be proud of. As a new mother at the time, it was also a means of survival.

As I deepened my understanding of brand design, I saw the real impact it could have on businesses, especially small, POC-owned businesses. I immersed myself in the process, exploring every essential step of building a strong, strategic brand. What started as a personal pursuit evolved into a mission: to equip Black- and Brown-owned businesses with branding that not only looks good, but drives real impact.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off as a Canva designer (very cringe). But it’s a very important part of my journey.

Once my clients began asking for file types that I had no knowledge of, I knew it was time to get serious and learn as much as possible. It was a challenge to have so much information at my finger tips but not truly understand what was most pertinent for me to know.

I invested in a design course to learn adobe, and from there….things took off. I realized you can never learn enough, especially in an industry where design platforms and technology tools are constantly changing.

What sets me apart from others is my commitment to my mission. I’m also proud of the extra steps I take to ensure my clients are equipped with the knowledge and tools to scale their brand and create generational wealth that we all deserve and dream of. My client relationships and my work truly speak to this.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I LOVE me some Kitchen & Kocktails, especially for their frozen drinks and live DJ. It would be a crime not to take them to El Taco H in Denton for the best Birria tacos and Cilantro lime rice I’ve ever had in my life.

A Mavs game is also a must. I lowkey have a ticket hook up. And catch a nice chill vibe at Saaya for some good music, hookah and cocktails.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been a HUGE support for me. From being a full time entrepreneur, to stepping back into a traditional job, and now balancing both – he has encouraged and supported me consistently.

My art director role has provided me built in mentorship from my manager and Creative Director, Phil. He’s given me the most constructive feedback I’ve ever received with all intentions of making me a better creative.
