We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Khamistos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Failure is always a risk when you start something new. It’s the same when you start a business. When I started The Major Music Company a year ago, there were some aspects that got stronger through trial and error, and some mistakes that I had to learn from. I did not know everything, but there was no better decision than to start regardless of where I thought I might fall short. You can never let the fear of failure control what you do. Fight through that fear, work hard, and you will have success in some way, although not always in the way that you expect.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Currently, The Major Music Company is in the DFW area and online. Our services include lessons for voice, piano, ukulele, violin, and guitar. (Depending on what area these services may be online only.) What sets us apart is that although as a student you have private lessons with one teacher, you have a team to communicate with and meet at performance events for extra support. I’m most excited that I have just hired two new teachers who are eager to prepare students for our next events. We are expanding, and that is incredible considering that we are celebrating one year of The Major Music Company as of this month. There are roadblocks. It is not always easy to keep up with everything and everybody. However, I am very grateful to have something that challenges me day-to-day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is no better area to live than DFW! There is so much to do. You can visit The Hub for live music, good food, and outdoor fun! When you want to try something new, take a cooking class at Sur La Table! There are always events on weekends at Downtown McKinney when you’re up for a walk and a little shopping! When you want peace and quiet, The Frisco Public Library is the place to go. The parks are always beautiful. Legacy West has the greatest picture spots and vendor booths during holidays! There is really an endless list.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Ryan Khamistos, gave me the encouragement to create my business. He pushed me to put my ideas into action regardless of the timing, steps, hurdles, cost, etc. He has been there to support me in every way from setting up vendor events to sharing social media posts. His effort really helps me to continue to do my best. He believes in the ideas that I have and supports my business plans.
