Meet Kristen Boyd | Owner, Window Seat

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My husband and I are both CPAs and worked in accounting for a few years until we realized it was not something we wanted to do forever. Luckily, we both agreed we wanted to own our own business. When deciding what shape that would take, we realized that some of the best parts of our work days were when we were able to get away from the office, from the computer, and from the spreadsheets. We would each end up at a coffee shop and just loved the feel of walking in, saying “hello” to the barista, smelling the coffee beans, all of it. It was something we wanted to experience every day. In our minds, it was similar to the feeling we get when we dream about and then go on a vacation. So, we wanted to bring that feeling of “getting away” into our coffee shop, and Window Seat was born.What should our readers know about your business?
Window Seat is a specialty coffee shop that seeks to capture that special feeling you get in anticipation of going on an exciting trip or vacation. No matter how you vacation (epic trips to foreign countries, staying at home with the family, relaxing at the beach), we want to help inspire that emotion through all that we do. We are very proud of our space and the feeling you get when you walk inside. Our coffee equipment is top of the line and we make all of our flavored syrups in house, so we know our beverages are delicious. It has not been an easy road. We searched for the right location for our coffee shop for years and finally settled on Greenville Avenue, which we love! We finally opened in March 2020, JUST before the stay-at-home order went into effect. We closed for a while and then opened back up with just my husband and I working every hour the store was open. We were then able to bring back some staff, as well as hire new baristas. Our customers are the absolute best and the biggest reason we love going to work every day. We’ve learned that joy is contagious and nothing beats customer service with a smile.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are quite a few people who deserve credit and recognition! First and foremost, my and my husband’s family has been so incredibly supportive. It has been a long journey and we would not have made it this far without them. It would be remiss of me not to mention the support and guidance from God in this journey, as well. Finally, I would recommend everyone read the book, “Start with Why” by Simon Sinek. It was critical in helping us get started and continue to find joy in our business each day.
