We had the good fortune of connecting with Kobe Adoh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kobe, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“The greatest thing you’ll ever Learn, is just to Love and be Loved in return…..” – Nat King Cole | Nature Boy I live by this quote. Its gotten me thru so many nights of not understanding my heart and true love for people not matter what life has dealt me. never regretful for the generosity as it is a gift from my ancestors to give it freely. and by doing this my life has been filled with some many relationships and experiences that only a loving heart could have purchased.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I currently own a Non- profit / Jewelry line called KanaryLink by Kjuane. our niche is our giving spirit. 24% of our weekly sales goes toward local community outreach programs (example: @4oakcliff sponsoring 10 kids for their annual back to school event , @onetreeplanted donating 1$ which equals 1 tree planted with every purchase, @bontonfarms, @texastreefoundation just to name a few. why? we see it as creating a guilt free purchase and bridging the gap from charity to luxury. Especially being a black woman, i wanted to create a space for opulence and philanthropy to live like you see at met galas / philanthropist fundraisers, country clubs etc in other cultural communities. Easy? ha ha not in a covid-19 world, its been ANYTHING but. Even tho I do have a background in marketing/ new business development everything I knew about business got tossed out the window with the bath water. Originally my brand was to launch on March 25 2020. for my birthday, and 10 days before launch party we got the alert that life as we knew it would change for the next few month to currently. Through this time of getting laid off and scraping to see if my brand was salvageable my mind wandered back to the time I wanted to start my very first business (mobile bar-tending school) when I lived in Houston Texas and Hurricane Harvey hit not only leaving me displaced in a homeless shelter for 7-days but also requiring me to relocating to Las Vegas only for a mass shooting to happen not to long after getting settled in. it took me a couple years to rebuild enough confidence to start again only with the charity as an anchor for my intentions so its no surprise that hearing about another disaster looming over yet again the feeling set in like “sheeesh” maybe this just isn’t for me, but when you have this drive to rule your life and not letting life rule you, Trials and tribulations just start an understanding that living isn’t for the weak, and living successfully definitely isn’t for the weak-hearted. I want people to know that this brand isn’t just a business for me, its my fight, my purpose, my continuous reason to keep fighting because through all of those experiences that were supposed to keep me down it grounded me in knowing thru hard work and honest transparency nothing will stop me from providing my future customers with the best products come rain hell or pandemic.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I live in the Addison area so Village of Parkway off of Beltline has been my stomping ground for a while now! Sidecar social (My Adult Playground) is honestly one of the funniest experiences in Addison especially for it being in a area that know for as the largest bar and restaurant region per capita – Forbes list but not many ACTIVITIES so its awesome to go there and shoot some hoops and toss darts Oh and did i mention the games are ALL free. STIRR Addison is another one of my favorite spot it is actually the location for an upcoming “Try & Buy” fundraising event on Aug 26, 2020 giving our guest an opportunity to try on our collection in person and buy online so that it can safely be sent to you sanitized and brand new! Also Lowkey Poke cute little poke bowl place with all day happy hour and the best casa azul prices in the city! But I’ve recently found a new obsession with Legacy West Plano! Between KAI an amazing and experience style dining. To the Moscow Mule specials on Thurday’s at Earls, and culturally needed and black-owned business Roots Chicken shak and i don’t even eat meat but who doesn’t love the smell of fresh fried chicken ( i mean we is in the south ha ha) are all my new favorite places to frequent as of late. Sadly due to covid its limited me getting to know the city to Max opps but I’m happy so far some of the places that have helped make this feel like home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Easy answer. My Dad, he’s my beginning middle and forever. My dad has been a business man for as long as I could remember, because of that I’ve seen us at our highest of highs as well as LOWS. Thankfully due to that quite eventful roller coaster ride called “my teens to early twenties” it made me now TRULY appreciate all the blood sweat and sacrifices he made in his businesses for me. I question constantly, what kind of woman i might have become with out him. Would my work ethic and time management be this robotic? Would my business needs have to include finding new ways to give back to the community? NEXT WEEK ON DragonBallZ haha…just kidding! I honestly don’t know but you will know for certain, is I wouldn’t have this desire of making my brand so successful if it wasn’t just to make him extremely proud.
