We had the good fortune of connecting with Kj Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kj, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor I believe would be marketing and word of mouth advertising. Not everyone likes to read and a lot of people certainly don’t like talking about the hard stuff but the more effective your marketing is and buzz is created, the success comes quicker.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a creative is not without its highs and lows, set backs and push backs. In a sense, I still feel like I haven’t took off just yet but to know that my book is in the hands of 50 families is encouraging. This was just a seed in my mind, a conversation between God and I that manifested beautifully. Every day is a battle. You struggle with support or lack there of but I remember the purpose behind the book and I keep going. I’ve learned to market better, figure out my target audiences and push my book and it’s purpose. What I want the world to know is that we were taught silence but there is freedom on the other side. You don’t have to allow what you don’t accept and accept what you don’t allow. Speak your truth and gain your healing and liberty.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love to be by the water. I would definitely go to Grandbury beach or Meadowmere park in Grapevine. We can jet ski and enjoy the water and just soak up some sun. Arlington Improv is also a must stop to just sit back and laugh because laughter really is good for the soul. I would also see what jazz or poetry slams are in the city at that time to just sort of catch a vibe. We would spend the week at my friend Allas historical bed and breakfast in Duncanville and spend the remainder of our days shopping at North East or Parks Mall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My best friend’s Shawni, Brittany and CreeAnn push me to go beyond how I feel. The host of He said vs She said with Lovely that I have the privilege to sit along side (also my fabulous loctician) Ashley who covers me in prayer, share ideas and believes with me that we should not be silent; Our voice has sound. My mom, my husband and my children, my family period keep me rooted in my fight to break down the generational curses that haunt my bloodline. I have a dedication to not just my family but all families to help them pick up the torch.
