We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirschen Wolford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirschen, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is first my faith in God. Without that, I would not have the resilience, strength, or mental stability to proceed forward on a daily basis. Next, I would say embracing the process definitely helps with my success. I feel as though when I find myself having total focus on just getting better day by day, I don’t get caught up in the highs or the lows that I experience on my life journey. By embracing the process, it keeps me neutral. Last, but not least, I enjoy every moment I go through. I take time out to spend with my family and enjoy my victories, whether they be big or small. If I fail, I take that in as well and figure out where I can improve. I’m my hardest critic.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So, I’m Kirschen ‘TeX Wolford and I’m a multi-hyphenated artist. I was born and raised in Dallas and went to Booker T. Washington HSPVA. From there, I left and went to college in Philadelphia named the University of the Arts. I believe wholeheartedly this is when my entire artistry shifted for me. Before I moved, I would say I was sort of a one dimensional artist. I loved acting and I dabbled in music from growing up in church. But when I got to Philadelphia, it was a complete culture shock. It allowed me to view Texas from a birds eye view an gain a new respect for my hometown Dallas. Not only did it expand my gifts, but I began to use my artistry to teach children. It was difficult for me to make that transition, but once I did I became a more dynamic artist. Currently, I act, sing, play drums, piano, songwrite, compose, teaching artist, audio editing, video editing, voiceovers and I do voice acting. To all the kids with a dream, anything is possible!!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were here for a week, we would have to check out the Perot Museum, the Pan African Connection Store, Sankofa, Speed Zone or Andrettis. I love live music so we could go to Freemans Cafe or Dr Jeckylls Bar in Arlington. I also like paintballing at Ellen’s Amusement Park. We can get food at Little Katanas as well or Fuego de Chãos. We have airbnb we could rent instead if the typical hotels. There’s also a good hangliding spot here too! Finally, six flags and we have to do a sporting event. A cowboys or mavericks game.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off, I have to thank God, my mother and father for birthing me. Secondly, the Niloo Jalilvand and the Pegasus Media Project for being and ultimate support system in assisting me as I navigate the business of being an artist.
