We had the good fortune of connecting with King.Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi King.Kidd, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by the world. The chaos, the love, the destruction, the harmony. It creates such a balance to be able to pull from the good/bad and make something beautiful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a Conscious poet who happens to make Hip Hop music with a splash of RnB and pop. When I’m writing a song, I’m writing a feeling or dissecting what I see around me. What keeps me authentic is using my real life to influence my songs. If it doesn’t sound like something I would say/do in a regular day I’m not saying it. I believe that’s what keeps my fans interested, I’m the same artist on and off the mic. It has caused issues along the way with people wanting me to bend my principles or sound to fit within current trends, but my momma raised a fighter. I knew from age 7 that what I had to say was important and can’t be swayed.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would take them to The Rail Club live in Fort Worth to enjoy rising artist. I would then take them to the Boiling Crab in Dallas for some of the best crab legs in Texas. After getting our bellies full I would then end the night in Deep Ellum walking the streets of night life and catching street performers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my Producer Beatnerd Hub. We connected over our passion for music and became the best of friends. He understood how I want my music to resonate and the purpose that I’m tasked with. He’s my music soulmate who helped me gain my confidence with finding my sound. I would also like to shoutout Douglas Elliot. He’s been one of my biggest supporters, putting me in rooms and circles that have skyrocketed my career in a short amount of time. I would also like to shoutout my DJ Tony Snow. After Beatnerd Hub passed away he brought me under his wing and has put me on shows with Texas legends like Dorrough Music and Paul Wall. I’d also like to shout out Queenz Catering for always providing bomb food for all my shows at The Rail Club Live. If you haven’t had a plate, you’re missing out!
