We had the good fortune of connecting with King Guapo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi King, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Guapo Essentials was deeply personal for me. I’ve always believed that how we present ourselves—through our style, grooming, and confidence—plays such a huge role in how we feel and how we show up in the world. It wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about creating something meaningful that could make people feel empowered and confident in their everyday lives.

The idea came from my own experiences and passion. I noticed there was a gap in the market—products that were high-quality, approachable, and genuinely tailored to the needs of the modern individual. I wanted to change that. I wanted to build a brand that didn’t just sell products but helped people feel good about themselves, from the inside out.

Of course, starting this business wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt, a lot of late nights, and countless lessons along the way. But what kept me going was the belief in my vision and the excitement of seeing it come to life. Knowing that I could make someone’s day a little better or give them a little extra confidence was the driving force behind it all.

Ultimately, Guapo Essentials is more than just a business for me. It’s a reflection of my values and my belief that everyone deserves to feel good about themselves. This journey has been about turning my passion into something real, something that can inspire others—and I’m so grateful for that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Thank you for asking! My brand, King Guapo Speaks, is all about connecting and inspiring people through the power of words and shared experiences. As a multicultural master of ceremonies, I specialize in hosting events that bring people together, no matter where they’re from or what their background is. I’m passionate about creating moments that feel meaningful where everyone in the room feels seen, celebrated, and connected.

What sets me apart is my ability to bring a genuine, universal energy to every event. I’ve had the privilege of emceeing over 150 events (and counting), and each one feels like a new opportunity to create something unforgettable. My journey started way back in sixth grade in Botswana, when I discovered my love for public speaking during a school debate competition. I got 3rd place! From that moment, I knew being on stage and using my God-given talents to spark positive emotions in people was my purpose.

It hasn’t always been easy, though. Public speaking and emceeing come with their challenges whether it’s overcoming self-doubt, learning how to adapt to different audiences, or managing the pressure of constantly improving. But I’ve always viewed challenges as stepping stones. Winning the area contest for Toastmasters was a huge milestone, not just because of the recognition, but because it reminded me of the importance of persistence and preparation.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that authenticity is everything. When I stay true to myself whether it’s embracing my Ghanaian roots or weaving my personality into every event. I connect with people on a deeper level. That’s also why I created Guapo Essentials, my self-care brand for men. It’s about encouraging confidence through organic products inspired by my heritage and reminding men that taking care of yourself is a powerful act.

What I want the world to know is that my story is rooted in gratitude and vision. Whether I’m on stage hosting events or going viral on TikTok with SpicySuyaBoyz, my mission is to uplift and connect. One day, I hope to take this passion to even greater heights—like hosting global events or winning a Grammy.

I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come, but this is just the beginning. Follow along on this journey, and let’s create something amazing together!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the morning, we’d head to the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Center. Both are free and full of inspiration. For lunch, we’d hit Bread Winners Café for brunch vibes—hello, chicken and waffles! We’d spend the day at Klyde Warren Park, grabbing bites from the food trucks and relaxing in the green spaces. Maybe play some ping pong or just people-watch. Finally, we’d keep it chill with a stroll at White Rock Lake.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to give a shoutout to God! God is the reason and with God all things are possible! I’d also like to give a shoutout to my parents for all the sacrifices that they have made for me. They were entrepreneurs that gave up their businesses so that I could have a good education and I am forever grateful for all of their hard work. I’d also like to give a shoutout to my amigo for life and business partner Roy for sticking by my side and being my strategic partner. I’d also like to give a shoutout to Kayla of Dallas black bloggers, Sidonie from the African think tank, Olachy Morrel, Nada Abdul, Mariama, Llexi Wales, Wendy, Jennifer Onwumere and Stacy Tubonemi. They have all poured into me with million dollar advice that has helped me throughout my business career! And of course I have to save the best for last and give a special shoutout to my family and my wife Tayla and Sanaa for always being there no matter what!
