We had the good fortune of connecting with Kineatra Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kineatra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always loved to write and have journaled since I’ve was about 6 years old. At the time of starting my blog/brand I was unemployed and the only bringing me happiness, at the time, was doing my hair and writing. So, I created my website and started writing about how I grew my natural hair out from damaged relaxed ends, with the hopes to encourage others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This journey into blogging or “influencing” has not been easy. Most people think it’s all about taking pretty pictures and posting, hey one time I was one of those people. There’s so much work that goes behind being a good creative, a creative that wants to give 100% every time. The crazy thing about this journey is, that my ex husband encouraged me to start my blog and now because of him I choose to encourage others with self-love through fashion! I took that heartbreak and used it to level up and show people that it’s okay to lose yourself but don’t stay there long, there’s work to do. In my case, my brand Naturally Nex became the holder to being Naturally Nex to being whomever I wanted to be. Now, I encourage others to be Naturally Nex to being their whole selves. Fashion was never the end game, ha! It was never the beginning either but here we are and for this I’m grateful. Self love and going find affordable fashion to help your self love journey is where it’s at! I’m proud of this journey and to you reading this, be proud of yours too because your journey cannot be taken from you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently moved to Dallas about 4 months ago after living in New Orleans for 7 years, so I’m still learning my new city. But I love a good girls time so we would get an air bnb locally and hang out in the Bishop Arts District. They have great brunch spots and local shopping as well. Come back and ask me this question again in a few months lol.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom has been my rock, after creating my brand I went through a heartbreaking divorce where I lost myself. Thereafter, she daily encouraged me in finding myself again through fashion. To my sister’s thank you for letting me be myself and not judging me.
