We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinda Makini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kinda, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I’ve been asked this question several times recently. To me, it’s really simple: If you think about it when you wake up, during the day and before you go to sleep, keep going as the idea is on your conscience for a reason. Everybody has great ideas but only those who are persistent make them a reality.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Image Consulting! I love working with my clients to enhance their images! I like to get to know my clients to have an understanding of what they are looking for and to set some realistic expectations. We all can’t look like well known celebrities but one thing is for sure, you will look GREAT after it’s all said and done! The pandemic has caused us all to shift in one way or another so I had to be creative and move my craft into what was really taking off: professional photo shoots! Being in the house for long periods of time weighed on us and people were ready for a change. Human interaction is a necessity. I found out soon that styling clients for photoshoots was exactly within in my strike zone and I was very good at it! From pre-teens to adults, something happens when they are styled correctly and are in front of the camera. It’s like this totally different side of them comes out! I love to see the before and after transformations as well as the confidence that exudes during the photoshoots. That’s when I know that my job is done and done well!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Texas is a pretty big state. The Dallas area has pretty much every thing I need except for a beach with white sands and beautiful mountains! So here are my picks for a nice getaway in DFW: The first stop would be breakfast at Starwood Cafe. They have the best pancakes this side of the Mississippi! Next, we’d walk off the delicious breakfast and head over to the Frisco Fresh Market and Market at the Star. I love supporting small business and Market at the Star showcases some of the best creatives in the South! After all of the fabulous shopping, we’d make our way over to Spavia for some much needed essential massages. Hands down, I feel like a new person after experiencing their relaxing massages! The massage would seal the deal for me as after that, I am ready to get some much needed sleep!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Staying grounded in my faith in God is where all the credit goes to. I believe that my family has a huge impact in pushing me, encouraging me and believing in me. My clients have pushed me beyond my normal limits in thinking outside the box while enhancing their images. They want to have their own, unique looks and that’s why they come to me! Lastly, the failures that I’ve encountered were and are learning curves. They’ve kept me from making some really bad decisions. You can’t get it right all the time but you can for sure get it right most of the time!
