We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Caldwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what do you want your legacy to be?
Legacy… What is a legacy? “It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see”. I want my work to influence others in a positive way by shedding light on the importance of successful re-entry/reducing recidivism in the male population. It is my desire to create discussions that will continue for generations. I would like to be remembered for more than just being a kind person. I have invested time, resources, and hard work into my GOD-given purpose and I would like my for my footprints to be lasting and of great Influence! It is my desire to leave a legacy of love and bravery and know that my life inspired people to be braver, bolder, and more creative in their own lives. Jewel’s Comfort Keeper Inc. strives to make people feel apart of our mission through actions and interactions, redefines success, and gives hope to a population of people who have been thrown away, We assist and care for those who are often over looked by society and deemed outcast (the underdogs/black sheep). It is my hope to Empower, Affirm, and Assist those who lack hope, resources, and a support system. I want people to not only believe that they can live a successful life after moments of transgression, but to be encouraged, restored, renewed, and supported to a healthy, holistic place in their lives. Long after I’m gone I would like for people to remember how much I really cared for the organization and the lives that were changed because Jewel’s Comfort Keeper exists.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Jewel’s Comfort Keeper was birthed out of a place of hurt and being tired of seeing male family members and other men return home after incarceration to no hope, no resources, and often times no family support. JCK desires to be an answer to a pandemic that existed long before COVID-19. Though the concept of JCK was placed on my heart in 2016, it did not come to fruition until 2019. Fear of failure, lack of support, and a lack of knowledge delayed the organization’s inception. However, the passion I had for it would not abate, and after educating myself, in 2019 I stepped out on faith and founded JCK. The road to establishing this organization has not been easy, and it has been a learning process that has tested me in many ways. I have learned the importance of mentorship, community relationships, and collaborations. I would like the world to know that men matter too and that what they do in a moment does not define their entire life; it is what they did, not who they are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
During the week I would definitely have to take my best friend to True Kitchen and Kocktails because the food is great and the atmosphere is phenomenal. We would also visit the Reunion Tower and enjoy the fantastic view. And I would make sure we spent some time in Deep Ellum to view the sights and take in the nightlife.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jewel’s Comfort Keeper Inc. is a labor of love that would not be possible without the love and support of my children, Christian, Briice, and Ascher. I would like to extend a special thanks to my mentor Shawana Carter the founder of Carter’s House Dallas who has provided invaluable guidance and encouragement. And above all my Creator and Savior Jesus Christ who has placed this gift inside of me and given me the strength to to pursue it.
