Meet Kimberly Anne Richardson | Photographer & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Anne Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly Anne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, using my little brothers and friends as models, I became very passionate about sharing stories and documenting whatever vision I had. I remember telling people I would travel and meet new people forever.
Over the short span of my teenage years, I made it my life’s ambition to pursue a career I could confidently say I found purpose in.
It’s never easy to build a portfolio or make enough off contracts and shoots to pay rent, but finding creative expression through meeting other people and telling THEIR stories has made me content over the years.

What should our readers know about your business?
Building a positive, creative reputation for myself in a small town at fifteen wasn’t easy. The only job I’ve had other than being a photographer was at that time after I graduated high school. I was a waitress. When I wasn’t at that Tex-Mex restaurant, I would do shoots, just with friends or people I’d reach out to in the area on Instagram. I was so obsessed with the excitement I felt when I got a perfect shot of someone. I was more obsessed with the excitement I brought other people when they felt confident.
I remember finishing up school so I could do whatever was next. It wasn’t long after that I did study photography and started traveling. But pushing through and saving and not making any money off my work sucked. I sacrificed a lot of my teenage years to study hard, finish early, and work to afford to do what I was passionate about for free.
I’ve had many ups and downs in my field. There have been times when I did consider going in another direction. I’ve had many slow seasons. Sometimes, even doing whatever it takes, I’d fall short.
What sets you apart will always be how driven you are.
What are you willing to do to accomplish your goal? Are you willing to put in the long days and late nights?
How do you make a career out of something only 10-20% of creatives make a livable salary on? You start. I just never gave up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots (especially for shoots,) near the Royse City area are:
– The Harbor, Rockwall
– City Lake Park, Down Town Royse City
– Mainstreet, Royse City
– Commerce and school campus
– Arcades (multiple locations)
Most of the shots I’ve taken are throughout Texas and different neighboring states!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout-out to friends over the years who have encouraged me and let me use them to practice different ideas over the years!
Another shout-out to companies that believed in me and now look great on my resume. (YMCA, Shutterfly, Traditions…)
