Meet kim Ducote | Wedding & Special Events Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with kim Ducote and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi kim, what do you attribute your success to?
I base the success of the wedding aspect of Chestnut Square on the deep rooted history of our village, the unique qualities we offer in a wedding venue and the outstanding *customer service we offer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my career as a wedding professional in 2009 after actually getting married here myself. I acquired the position by jokingly saying to my venue salesperson “Your job seems fun, if you should ever want to leave it give me a call.” And so she did!
I really love what I do. What keeps it fresh is the different clientele every day. No two weddings are alike, so it keeps it interesting and always a challenge.
Being in the field of customer service in some fashion all my life and always being creative makes this particular position easy for me. You really have to be a creative thinker when it comes to weddings. Each client is different and has a different vision and they look to me to help make their special day exactly what they have always dreamed of. I pride myself on the level of care and service I give to all our couples, and I don’t have a problem bragging about our reviews!
If I could give advice to folks getting married, I would tell them to choose a venue that fits their personality, their budget and has the atmosphere for the style of celebration they are looking for. Chestnut Squares offers a very casual, intimate and fun atmosphere that allows celebrations to take place indoors and outdoors. I often tell couples, “we are like a house party with a back yard”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being part of the Historic Downtown Mckinney atmosphere is so exciting. So much to do and see and the vibe is like no other.
*On a Saturday I would start at the Mckinney Farmers Market at Chestnut Square, enjoy fresh coffee and pastries and fill your bags with fresh veggies, local honey and of course handmade items.
*At 10am, hop on the trolley and take a tour of the Historic district given by a docent from our very own Chestnut Square volunteers.
*If you are hungry for more history, you can take our public tour of our Historic homes right on our property at 11am.
*Enjoy a lunch on the outdoor patio at Spoons Cafe on the Square or many other restaurants to choose from.
*Take a stroll around the square and visit the many shops. Stop in at Mom and Popcorn and grab a bag of unique flavored popcorn or go back in time with all the old fashion candies
*Stop for a glass of wine at Landon’s Winery
*Perhaps take in a theater production at the Mckinney Performance Arts Center or look through the Collin County History museum
*Finish off the evening with a dinner at Rick’s Chophouse or any of the other fabulous restaurants on the Square!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our museum and wedding/event village thrives everyday with the love of a dedicated staff, the loyalty of volunteers and the support of MCDC
