We had the good fortune of connecting with Kheyara Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kheyara, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Honestly I haven’t really succeeded yet. I’m just scratching the surface and staying consistent in what I truly love doing within styling so I’ve always just asserted myself in that type of manner because I am confident in what I’m doing and I am confident in what I’m saying to my clients to make them feel beautiful and great about themselves and so forth. I have so much more to learn and so much more knowledge to gain. But I will be iconic one day, just overflowing myself with gems I need to become great.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s truly been the worse experience ever. We’re in the middle of a pandemic and peoples lives are changing including mine right in front of our eyes and we already have so much other things to balance and make sure gets paid or fed. My outlet was styling to create a story or fantasy just by your outfit is art. And that truly is what got me through everything specially being a mommy. When I found out that I was going to be styling some cast members from Real Housewives of Dallas I was really taken back because it was truly such a big leap but I gave it all I got and it came out amazing and then turn around and have a part take in Styling with Kylie Jenner I was just thinking to myself like “we have to keep this momentum going” … so with the set backs there was a wonderful outcome.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s honestly a good time wherever me and my girls are at, we love a nice bar where we can just have a good time, enjoy ourselves and be cute. Dallas is a great city to explore and just enjoy scenery with the people you love the most. But before anything if you want to get your hair braided for that night out the best in the game is Tytiana Watson IG: tanglesbytyti and then probably have a cute dinner at Ruth Chris or Taqueria Moctezuma and they have the best tacos, after we’ll probably be a Level in downtown Dallas and that’s just for that day. Dallas is such a beautiful city and the museums are my favorite, then zoo and aquarium but just downtown it’s self with the sculptures and statues and scenery you’ll never be bored.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout is myself, and not to sound cocky Or arrogant it’s just because I’ve worked very very hard I have overcome so many adversities and obstacles that I have to give a big shout out to myself because I didn’t give up I kept going I kept pushing I kept being hard on myself even though I knew I shouldn’t have I still kept grounding myself and making sure that I never got above that line to where I just got comfortable.
