We had the good fortune of connecting with Khadijah Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khadijah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Initially, the thought process behind my business was promoting God and it still is. Many people hear about God, but they don’t truly know who he is. For years I wanted to reach people in a different way other than just them feeling they were being judged by “christians” or believers for their behaviors, etc. So, I decided to combine the two things that I love: God & Beauty. It is my goal to just keep God at the forefront of our minds. On each of my products there is a bible verse to keep my customers mind on God. I even name my products after different church sayings and mantras, such as: Praise Brulee, Grace, Chosen, Righteous, Church, Creed, Serve, and more.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Pour Life Cosmetics became a thought during my sophomore year of college. During that time I was pursuing my career to be an educator. Currently today I serve in two separate careers, an entrepreneur and a teacher. As a teacher, of course I had to attend 4 year college and grad school to pursue education. I even began working on my doctoral degree in 2018, and I look forward to graduating one day. Although I love teaching, there is such a creative in my body as an entrepreneur that I want to release to the world. I sit daily and map out ideas and plans to give to the world. Building a brand while working in such a demanding career is not easy, but it’s worth it. I truly feel like that’s what sets me a part. I don’t complain, I just simply create. There are so many things I do in my private time that I never share with anyone. Another thing that sets me a part is my faith. Even with struggles, I constantly remind myself of this specific bible verse, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 Honestly I believe if God brought me to it, he will grow me through it. I want the world to know that I am truly not just trying to sale them a product, but I am trying to tell them about the one and only Lord and Savior! I want them to know the work he does in my life daily and how he blesses me daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas has so much to offer! First on the list of course would be food, because I love brunching in Dallas. There are a few amazing restaurant in the DFW area that I love, here is a list: Ida Claire, Yardbird Southern Table, Kitchen + Kocktails, Moxie’s, Stirr, Vidorra, Nick & Sam’s, Pappadeaux, Saint Annes, and so many more. I mean the list is massive. As far as activities, I love sightseeing and watching movies. Here are a few attractions: Axe Throwing, Fort Worth Zoo, Strike & Reel, Klyde Warren Park, Reunion Tower, Deep Ellum, Dallas Farmers Market, Texas Live, and anything that we find that’s happening in the area. Dallas honestly has so many options, and I love to follow influencers who vlog different restaurants, bars, and attractions in the DFW area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s so funny because initially I didn’t have the support I felt like I needed. But, I had to learn that everybody doesn’t have the vision that you may have, which is why the same visions and dreams aren’t given to everyone. As my brand grew more people began to support and show love authentically. Truly thats what I enjoy receiving the most, authentic love. Shoutout to everyone who has supported my brand by making a purchase, sharing a post, spreading the word about PLC, and just pouring information into me as a woman owned small business. I love each of you!
