We had the good fortune of connecting with Keyuana Burris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keyuana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always had a love for travel since I was very little. As I got older, I realized I wanted to see the world, the world outside the regular states.

While in college, I knew I always wanted to have my own business and I knew my love for travel would be prefect for me to start one around it.

I love to read, so I started to do my own research of becoming a travel agent.

Two of things I love to do is helping people and to travel so why not? I had the luxury of traveling while young, but I knew there were a lot of people out there who couldn’t do the same for their children.

I wanted to have a business that I enjoyed but also while making an impact on others. I learned that I could help families travel with the help of payment plans for their vacation.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Unplugged Escapes, which is a full service travel agency.

I specialize in international vacations while using low down payments options. There’s so many things I’m proud about with my business, the biggest thing is the growth I’ve seen over the past 2 years. I went to booking a couple of trips for families/individuals to booking groups/cooperate trips and even trips for professional team employees.

I’m me, that’s exactly what set me apart from others. I like to show my personality while doing business with my clients and although some may not like to hear it, I like for them to know the real up front up about what they’re wanting regarding their vacation. I want to have an every lasting relationship with my clients and not just one time transaction relationship.

As you know the travel industry was probably one of the most hard hit industry during the pandemic. Business went from doing good to literally almost all my bookings being canceled back to back, I had no income from this business at all. So no things weren’t easy during this time, but nothing in life comes easy. I decided to take the time to research, learn more about different destinations and just learn more about the travel industry as a whole. Although we were in a middle of a pandemic I knew once it was over people would be ready to travel with bells on.

During this time, I learned you need to make sure all documentation is in order when doing business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lol. This is a hard one because I like having fun and eating, but I’m also a homebody. I’ll say we’ll do brunch at Ellen’s, maybe hit Gators for a karaoke night one night. We’ll just have to get on TikTok and figure it out from there 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people who deserves a shoutout for this journey! First and first most would be God.

Second, I would like to thank my husband who allows me to do anything that I come up with and have no problem with it. I also would like to thank my Auntie & Uncle who allowed me to travel while being young and being expose to other things to expand my horizons.

I also would like to thank my friends who share and promote my business as if it’s theirs.
