Meet Kevin Ruiz | Car Detailing Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always felt motivated to create something of my own. I have worked several jobs and I never felt any real motivation as an employee. I would always catch myself thinking about going out and making it on my own, and eventually I said yes to this idea. Now that I have been building this business for the last year and half, I can reflect on that decision. There are days when I miss the consistency and security of working for somebody else, and I can see why many people are perfectly happy with this path. However, the flexibility and fulfillment of growing a full-time business outweighs the uncertainty and the stress.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The reason this business has been successful is because of our integrity and work ethic. We put our customers’ experience before our bottom line, and we are upfront about everything we do. Even when it’s inconvenient, or when we know we can easily get away with something, we hold ourselves to a higher standard. Our customers have taken notice, and this is why we have such good reviews. There are many businesses who can perform a service, but there are only a few who consistently perform those services with integrity and trustworthiness. We are one of those few and it has paid off.

It’s not easy to maintain this standard, but it helps when we remember who we are working for. That is one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way. That when you honor God with your work, he will bless you and you will find success. This is what I’d like everybody to know about Upscale Detail. We serve our customers with the mindset that we are working for God.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely hit up the malls in Dallas for the best shopping experience. Both the Galleria and Northpark mall are excellent places to eat/shop. Food-wise Dallas is full of a great variety of delicious food. We’d probably get some breakfast at Scrambler Cafe in Murphy. Lunch would be some delicious Vietnamese food at Saigon Block in Murphy. And for dinner, we would definitely have to visit Cru Food & Wine Bar. These are some of my favorite places to eat here in Dallas. I would also take them to West Village to get some drinks and do some walking. I’m big on night driving, so I would take them to downtown Dallas and drive through the urban streets. And lastly I’d finish with a view of the skyline at the Trinity Groves Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say that my family and friends are definitely the best support group I could ask for. My family is always encouraging me and offering their help. My younger brother even works with me during the summers. My parents supported me financially when I left my full-time job to commit to this business. I hope to be able to repay them for all of their support one day.

My friends are also part of my story, as they have been some of my first customers. When I started Upscale Detail, I didn’t have the customer base I do now, so I relied on my friends to hire me and give me experience/feedback. I will always be grateful to them for the way they helped me kickstart my business.

And finally, I attribute all of my success to God. He has provided for me and blessed me with amazing customers. I’ve been able to succeed because I work diligently and with integrity, doing my best to represent him in everything I do. To me, what’s more important than our financial success, is how Upscale Detail can honor God and glorify the name of Jesus. That is the purpose of this business.
