Meet Kevin Paige | Motorsports Fine Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Paige and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am a born creative. If I don’t create something with my hands, daily, I start to get anxious and uptight. I’ve found that I don’t enjoy making art in the traditional sense but it scratches an itch that has to be ‘got at’. I liken it to how one feels after a good sneeze.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Motorsports have been my passion since my freshman year in college when I worked and Discount Tires. I knew nothing about cars when hired and didn’t like the feeling of being ignorant of something thing that I was touching every day. I started to educate myself by reading Road & Track, Motortrend, and the like. Eventually, it led me to research why the Corvette I fixed a flat tire on that afternoon was different than the Corvette I saw racing on TV. The differences and details fascinated me. After going to see my first race in the early 2000s at Texas Motor Speedway just outside of my college town and hearing the thunder that racing cars produce in person, I was hooked.
I’ve since tried to bring a sense of sound and power to my artwork. The way a tire grips the pavement, or a body panel creases under pressure, or the belch of an exhaust… I want my viewers to feel that with me.
Sports in general offer me a microcosm of real-world events. Defeats, triumphs, and humble moments can all be experienced with the athletes that we see on our stages. I often try to capture the feeling that I get when a moment moves me emotionally.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The South of France. I’ve been to the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix every year but COVID times for close to 2 decades now and know the area relatively well. Every I go back I find something new and genuinely beautiful. There are so many rolling hills and pockets of natural beauty to go along with the history of the area. It is also a completely insane place to see racing cars go nearly 200 mph through a city that is not a race track.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents in particular deserve a shoutout. My mom was an educator and my father was soldier but both will always continue to serve in the roles as long as they are able to. Their efforts and spirit continue to shape me as a man and a member of our community.
