Meet Kevin (Maham the Mentor) DuBriel | Author and publisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin (Maham the Mentor) DuBriel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin (Maham the Mentor), we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’m aware of the literature that is created while individuals are incarcerated that can be instrumental to young people. So I created my publishing company mainly to help people who are incarcerated publish their books while they’re behind bars.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Maham the Mentor Books LLC was created to publish educational, motivational and inspirational books. We separate ourselves from normal book publisher because we offer a special stewardship service for people who are incarcerated that would like to publish a book. We provide a safe and responsible way to assist these people get their work published.
What I’m proud about or most excited about? I’m proud to be a servant for others. I’m excited for the opportunity to held accountable and learn new things.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.? To make a long story short. I had a very difficult life. I lost both parents before six months old. I was in special education by 14. I went to prison at 18.. I learned how to read at 22. I started college at 33. I graduated at 38. I wrote my first book when I was 42. I’m 45 now. I have two books published. Nonfiction book about Americans Black History. I’m a taught entrepreneur. Meaning I’m a graduate of Baylor University Entrepreneurship Program. I have participated in and have won Business plan competitions.. I would tell anyone who listens. Am entrepreneur is not just a business owner. He has to know some things like labor laws. How to develop a work force. Many things. My business knowledge is very deep. But the most important thing I teach about entrepreneurship is character. And that’s no one wants to do business with someone with bad character.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? I want them to know that I learned that I was built to overcome adversity just like you. I want people to hear my story and find the wisdom and knowledge in it. Understand that no matter what. We are all human beings. We need each other for fellowship and accountability out of love. We were designed that way. I look forward to learning from the people who love me enough to hold me accountable to my principles I set for myself that was always past down from my family. That’s how it works. Never quit, remember who we are as humans. My life has been nothing normal but through others. I learned my self and self value. I love looking forward to tomorrow because there’s no finish lines for good people.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First stop would definitely have to be the JFK Tour in downtown Dallas. One of my favorite places to visit. Next up would be the Reunion tower. Very iconic. Place. Then we could swing by the American Airlines Center. Home of the world Champion Dallas Mavericks. Of course we would have to catch a Dallas Cowboys games at the At&t Stadium and Six Flags over Texas. I love the Dallas Museum and Art and Dallas Zoos and the Dallas World Aquarium. Then we would explore the Bishop Arts District and Highland Park Village. Of course we have to go to Dallas Galleria and Northpark Mark. Nate’s seafood in Addison and Records BBQ in Oak Cliff. Night light would be Club Status Downtown Dallas. Ride through lower Greenville and Vinittis in Addison.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jaylin Williams. He’s a young man who’s doing big things in Texas. He’s always encouraging me and supporting myself and many others. He’s a great example of a good person doing good things. I want to serve others like he’s has served me.
