We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerri Lavery Sterin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kerri, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have had many creative endeavors in the past, but my passion was always jewelry. I just couldn’t get up the nerve to do it as a business. After a near death experience and a long recovery I had an a-ha moment and realized that I should only pursue things that bring me joy. I jumped in with both feet and never looked back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

House of Kerri designs are inspired by the natural wonders of the earth and the vibrant cultures that fill it. It has become an ever evolving, wildly bohemian collection with a whimsical vintage flair, Oxidized metals, bead and stonework adds vibrant color and texture to my work. Each piece has its own unique personality just like the people that collect them.

There are so many talented jewelry designers out there! I try to design pieces that make you smile. I hope to make unique pieces that make you feel beautiful and happy. If you must get dressed, you should have fun with it!

They most exciting thing for me is when show season ends and I get back into the studio to create. I collect stones, beads, feathers, metals and much more throughout the year. My happy place is when I have a block of time to pull it all out, immerse myself in all the beauty and let the inspiration and creativity fill me.

There have been many bumps along the way including a global pandemic. I’ve had shops close, shows cancel, and many times that I felt like a complete failure along the way. But with every failure came growth. You learn to adapt, change and sometimes completely overhaul. I’ve learned not to become to too attached to ways of doing things because there are always better ways that you just haven’t come across yet. Currently I am struggling with my online presence to drive website sales. This is an area that I am not adapting to as quickly as I’d like! Fortunately, Anna Cummins has been helping me baby step along. 2022 goals!

I want people to how grateful I am for their support and interest in my work. Even on the worst days I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do something that I truly love. I will continue to create new pieces with all of you as my inspiration.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Well that is a tough one, there have been so many people that have supported me on this journey! But 3 people that have played a very big part in growing my business.

My husband has always been my biggest supporter and has the patience of a saint. Our home is in constant disarray with a thousand different projects scattered everywhere. I would not want to live with me!

Shannon Bartz has been helping me for the last 5 years with shows and keeping me organized. I will be forever grateful for both. I would accomplish so much less without her.

Sabrina Taylor Mesh has always been a huge supporter. The photoshoots we have done together have completely changed how I market my business and opened me up to a whole new way of seeing things.
