We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedi Malone and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedi, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would like my legacy to be left through my artwork. Whether that is through images or videos, I would love to be recognized as capturing the essence of a person’s life through imagery and communication. I like to think of my photography business as gifting others with a present that lasts a lifetime. For each client I have, I thank them from the bottom of my heart for entrusting me to share in their new memories and how excited I am to capture them. Memories last perpetually and the fact that I have the consent to capture a portion of someone’s life is astonishing. As an artist, my goal is to create meaningful work and that is what I want to be remembered for.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I just completed my undergraduate degree in New Media Art at the University of North Texas, and I would say my work varies from what I created for my school projects versus my business, Kennedi Malone Photography. When in art school, my work reflected on social movements. With that, I created moving images and sound pieces to spread awareness about the unfair distribution associated with economic production. I use the art of sound to discuss nostalgia and mental health disorders as well as catering towards net art and animation to broadly examine the internet as a medium itself. As a freelance photographer, my work focuses on event photography and portraits.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places are basic because I don’t go out much but they are: The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, a great place for photos! Bishop Arts District, I believe almost everyone has been here. Lastly is Deep Ellum, they always have fun events on the weekends!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first person I would like to recognize is God. The second person is my uncle, Chad Brown. My uncle Chad was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer in 2013. The past few years have been a struggle, but he has continued to be positive like he has been my entire life. He has never let his illness define him or make him weak. My uncle is the strongest person I know. I would also like to give a shoutout to where I am from, Jonesboro, Louisiana.
