We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Rainey-King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is being diligent in everything that I do. I never give up no matter what the task is, I try to persevere through it all. I give everything my all and after writing 50 books, I wanted to see if I could write my own movie based off one of my books so I took Coach John’s Screenwriting Academy and I have really been in love with writing scripts. The success comes when passion is involved, if you don’t passion in what you’re doing you will get burnt out. I strive to better and greater each project.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started writing my first book my senior year in high school and I haven’t looked back yet. I was first published in 2009 and stopped writing for a couple of years until I was published again in 2016. Since 2016, I have written 50 books and 40 of those books have been National Best-sellers. It was definitely not easy, their were times when I wanted to give up writing but I couldn’t. I had many obstacles and challenges as I built my brand and learned a lot along the way. I am most proud of being able to write so many books and build my own platform with Curvy Girl Publications and Thick Madaam Publications. I am excited to have actual films come from my books and possible series. I’ve learned throughout all the trials and tribulations to stay grounded, focused, professional and most of all to love self through it all. I want the world to know that Kendra Rainey-King is coming and I want to tell stories that you can relate to, love and most of all feel in your gut as you watch my movies. My first movie that I am currently filming is titled: Knee Deep and right after we are gearing up for: Curves Under the Mistletoe. If you haven’t read a Kendra Rainey-King book, please check me out on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorites spots in the city are definitely the bars/restaurants in the Plano area. Their is so much to do and so many places to see. I love to have frozen margarita with Mia Tierra tacos at Mi Cocina. I would also recommend going to the Dallas Aquarium Downtown and the Dallas African American Museum inside of the Fairpark. You don’t want to miss out on this.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to God, first and foremost I would be nothing without the True King. I also would like to give a shout out to my husband Dameon King for his continuous support from every weekend as we film our first movie from letting me read my books to him, Doug Schwab the President of Maverick Entertainment for giving my scripts a chance, DeMarcus Bailey with J F Bailey Films for partnering with me and showing me the ropes, all of my readers who support me and my parents who are resting in Heaven; I pray I make you proud.
