Meet Kelsey Zobrist | Macaron Shop Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Zobrist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The great part about running my own business is that my end goal is able to change as my priorities change over the years. I would love to own my own brick-and-mortar macaron shop one day when my kids are older and I have more time to myself. Currently, my end goal would be to break into the wedding industry and do large orders full time.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
That Macaron Mama is a cottage law operated dessert shop, specializing in handmade, custom macarons. I’ve spent years researching the science of macarons, testing my recipes, and perfecting my technique. So when I moved to Texas and I learned that there was a lack of high-quality macarons on the DFW market, I knew it was my chance to finally create my dream business and share my passion with my new community.
It took a lot of work and energy to get my business to the level it is at today. Not many people realize how much goes into starting a cottage law shop on your own. Not only did I need to have an advanced level of macaron baking knowledge, but I’ve also had to learn a great deal about Texas cottage laws, advertising, social media management, website building, graphic design, marketing, SEO, and many other pieces to build a successful business and brand. What I’ve learned through it all is even if your product is amazing and you love what you do, the hard work you put into marketing of your business is what will truly set you apart from other businesses.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still new to the DFW area, but I love the outdoors so my first stop would be Cedar Hill State Park or Joe Poe Lake. And a vacation to DFW wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Fort Worth Stockyards!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off, my husband deserves a majority of the credit. He’s the one who encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and start my own business mere months after becoming first time parents. He knew it would take a lot of my time and energy and really stepped up to help me succeed. I’ve also been so blessed to make lifelong friends here in Texas who have been great taste testers, moral support, and the best marketers by telling everyone they know to give my macarons a chance. Lastly, I couldn’t do this without my regualry clients and everyone that has given me and my small business a chance. So thank you.
