Meet Kelsey Lundström | Esthetician and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Lundström and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, why did you pursue a creative career?
As an art major in college, I knew that a creative career was a path that I wanted for my life. But, I knew making it successfully as a mixed media artist would take some time. I branched out and found stability in marketing and sales. As I approached my mid twenties, I needed to make a change – I was too nice for sales and marketing just didn’t drive my passion. I came to a crossroads and decided that my life needed to somehow in help people in a creative way. But how? I considered teaching but it wasn’t until a friend of mine decided to apply to beauty school that Esthetics crossed my mind. I’ve ALWAYS been so intrigued with the sciences of skincare and helping people expose their inner sunshine. The combination of esthetics and mixed media art has established an awesome balance of a career, hobby and gives me the ability to make my own schedule!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To expand, my career so far has just been trial and error. Meaning, I’ve worked in a ton of industries – from service and art to the corporate world. It wasn’t until I opened my business that I realized that ALL of these experiences has aided my success. The service industry has shown me the importance of customer service and that people are just people – a kind service industry employee can make someone’s morning by just a smile and a kind word when you hand them their coffee. My time spent in the marketing and the sales world exposed that consistency and networking are crucial – our world is smaller than you think and you never know when you may run into someone in the course of your career. And instead of working on the side at a painting studio teaching, I decided to spend that time instead on my own art and commissions at home – from canvas painting to graphite, I love it all! Each one of these experiences and time spent away from a creative path has taught me valuable lessons as a business owner. It keeps my smile bright because I may be the only person to bring sunshine to someone’s day, consistently posting and showing up for my clients is what keeps them rebooking, nurturing connections keeps me relevant and organization keeps my books in the green. And as any artist knows, it’s the organization that’s the main obstacle! All this to say, now, I create custom skincare and treatments for my clients in a serene and calm environment while also coming home to my personal art commissions!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh gosh, SO HARD! Being raised both in DFW and San Antonio area, the Texas culture runs through my veins. Of course, we have to show anyone a good Texas time – a night out at the stockyards down in fort worth is the first stop. A quick bite at Joe T. Garcias before we hit Cadillacs or Billy Bobs for a night of dancing and good company! But, many people don’t know the diversity of Texas or DFW in particular. A night out in Dallas is just as fun – let’s start out at Deep Sushi in Deep Ellum or Uchi followed by Happiest Hour or The Tipsy Alchemist before heading to a speak easy through a Japanese kitchen! And in between for lunches and activities, we can hit up Belt Line and get great Korean bbq or Thai, the comedy club in Addison, the town square in McKinney or Main Street Grapevine. And if they’re lucky, my favorite local Ruibal’s Rosemeade Market and head out to grapevine lake and enjoy the sunset!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, as cliche as this answer is, my parents. They BOTH have played equal roles in my success as an entrepreneur. My father is a photographer and my mother a jack of all trades – while being young parents, they both worked stable jobs while each having a side business that was their passion. My father, the epitome of the American dream, stepped out of the grind and created his own production business in his early thirties. Meanwhile, my mom (while also creative in her jewelry and skincare side endeavors) took the corporate world by storm – from management to marketing, she knew the value of organization and leadership which made her successful. From my dad, I learned that your passions sometimes need a leap of faith and hard work will always pay off. From my mom, I’ve learned the importance of networking, marketing and that being organized is a key part in any business. They are walking examples of life goals and I’m lucky to have them as mentors.
