We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want Women Leading Technology to be as big as the Girl Scouts with a legacy like Mary Kay. I want to be remembered as being authentic. All though I didn’t always do things right, I never gave up or let anything stop me. I may stumble but God never let’s me fall.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Women Leading Technology is a professional non-profit technology sorority. We are more than just a technology organization for women, we are a true sisterhood. We are Servant leaders creating a circle of service for young girls from elementary-college to pursue a career in STEAAM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ARTS, ARCHITECTURE, AND MATHEMATICS). What sets us apart from other organization is our creativity, tight sisterhood, and dedication to pay it forward so young girls can succeed. We select our girls based on passion not grades. We enhance their natural gifts and we create a circle of service to help them succeed. I got to where I am today with the help of the sisters of Women Leading Technology and the external individuals that root for our success and support us financially. It was not easy. We had a lot of changes, downturns, and disappointments. I believe God will remove all opticals and distractions from around you when you serve others. He is has done that for our organization and he has blessed us with the right people to help us to be successful. We are just getting started. I’ve learned that starting a business requires a lot of discipline and dedication. You have to have the right people around you in order to be successful. Their passion needs to match yours and together you can make a huge difference. I am my authentic self. I am not like any other person in the world. I don’t try to be a like anyone else. I stay on my path following my vision and purpose. Women Leading Technology is like no other organization. What we are creating is a legacy for the future leaders. We are servant leaders and we love what we do. We compete with no one. We are on our own course moving in our own direction. We are uniquely WLT.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a very simple person. I would schedule a wine tour to Texas wine country. I love comedy so we would visit Improv to see one of our favorite comedians. We would then visit one of my favorite restaurant Kenny’s Italian Kitchen. We would go to The Common Table to listen to live music. We would also go to Cut movie theatre to see a movie. I would purchase paintings from Ray’s Amazing Paint Party to have our own personal paint and sip party on my back porch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my support system. My immediate family and my sisterhood. I have the most amazing support system that anyone could ever ask for. I want to send credit and love to one of the most amazing teams ever. That is the Women Leading Technology Team. Thank you for all of your hard work Alli Onni, Randee Jennings, Tiffany Evans, Linda Crocetti, Chintale Williamson, Nafeesa Beckwith, Sonya Winborne, Angela Germany, Jan Ross, Shane Woods, Tasha Ault, Candice Love, Tayson Charel, Faith Wanjiru, Jennifer Leigh, and Tracy Diop. I will forever be grateful for your contributions and belief in the organization. I couldn’t do any of this without you.
