We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellie Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kellie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Yarrum Group thought process behind starting our own business was contributing to and giving back to our community. Oak Cliff is on the the most underrated cities in Dallas. This city has an incredibly rich and diverse history. After moving back from California, we thought it would be a great idea to add to the growth of the city. Since I am from Oak Cliff, we thought is was great idea to start our business in Oak Cliff.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We’re most excited to provide a luxury experience for guests visiting the Oak Cliff area. We love to hear how they have enjoyed their experience. Other similar short-term rentals that are in 10 minutes north of Oak Cliff cost twice the amount as our rental and we provide the same experience. Bringing this kind of experience to Oak Cliff is a feeling of great pleasure. Many of our guest insist we should charge more, however, we want all to be able to afford the experience. In addition, short-term rentals have a bad reputation from guests partying to destroying property. Our major risk is trust trusting complete strangers to reside in your home. Other challenges we faced were ensuring our HOA that our guest would not disrupt their way of living. Clear communication at the HOA board meeting and guest criterion have led to our success. So far, our guests have been phenomenal!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right next door to our fabulous short-term rental is The Golf Club of Dallas where you can have breakfast and play a few rounds of golf. The Yarrum Group’s motto is “Take Off and Play Golf!” A few minutes away is Delta Charlies. You can have dinner and take a helicopter flight over Dallas. It is such a beautiful and breathtaking experience. A few minutes up the road is the Bishop Arts District; which is known for its diverse nightlife, fashion, bars, restaurants, and colorful street art. A little further north is Trinity Grove that provides events and spectacular views of Downtown Dallas. You can head over to the House of Blues for some great music. If you love sports, the American Airlines Center is the place to be. Klyde Warren Park is a beautiful oasis that provides dining, food truck, and events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always refer to my mother as the “Black Martha Stewart” when it comes to hosting parties and home decor. People would rave about her holiday parties, from the food to the indoor and outdoor decor. Her knack for hosting made a great impact on our business. Visiting luxury hotels contributed to our design as well. We wanted to reproduce that same “spa-like” experience with a short-term rental. That contributed to use remodeling this mid-century modern property that was built in 1960’s by Bill P. Page. Bill P. Page built the entire community of townhomes. A little unknown fact is Mr. Page actually lived in the very same home as our short-term rental until his passing.
