We had the good fortune of connecting with Keirajone Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keirajone, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would love for people to remember that I literally followed my dreams. Anything I wanted to do I did it. Anything I wanted to get I got it. No matter what any person on this Earth had to say. I made my own opportunities when there seemed to be none, I write out my plans, I work consistently to achieve them no matter the circumstances, and On top of all that I am a free-spirited person who operates out of love, understanding, and compassion.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In My Daycare Business I started off as a babysitter/nanny for a couple of years before me and my partner at the time discussed me starting my own Daycare in the beginning of 2020. I had already had experience professionally from working in a Daycare for my first job as a teenager as well as babysitting for family and their friends. Once I started by business there were a few bumps in the road immediately with covid locking down the first month I started but I didn’t let it stop me I knew although everything was shut down some people still needed childcare. I eventually was able to fill all available spots within 1 1/2 months of starting everything by marketing and interviewing with families back to back for weeks.

Being in this field of work has taught me a lot of lessons. One of my biggest lessons I learned was that sometimes the people you do the most for could just be using you simply because they don’t truly understand your value. And that stung me for a-little bit the first couple of times it happened, but I came to terms that it’s okay if they don’t see your value, because there’s thousands of others who will and do, and that’s where I should put my energy and focus on.

A few others things I have started on the side of Daycare are Natural Hair Care & Styling for children, Yoga & Holistic Wellness.

Outside of that I have joined two community groups. One by one mentoring, a non-profit in Dallas , we are always giving back to the community in various ways. The other is Spain Gang, an industry dance team, we do bookings , appearances, performances as well as give back to our community through different service events.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a home body but I do like to explore which is very interesting lol. But there’s this one trail called The Katy Trail that’s one of my fav places to go when I want to get out and active. They have different pit stops along the way like restaurants and chill areas.

I do love the water and there’s a spot in Argle, Texas I go for my birthday every year to go paddle boarding and it never disappoints. The company is called Bluet SUP.

Another place I like is the Sand bar for those who love volleyball and drinks lol it’s always a fun time.

I’m a cooker so most of my meals come from the grocery store and my kitchen. If I had to chose a place to go it would literally be any African place or a hole in the wall with a good burger .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all, I would like to thank God.

I would like to shout out every single person that has supported me. From family to friends & even strangers on the social media’s lol. I really appreciate all the verbal ,monetary , physical, and emotional support I have received over the past 4 years. Special shout outs to my parents of course because I wouldn’t be the woman I am here today without them. Another special shout-out to One by one mentoring, & Spain Gang, two of my family by choice community groups I have been involved in for over 2 years now. We have grown and put back so much into our community and I love every experience I have had with each group both together and individually. Both groups hold a bunch of positive, encouraging, and impactful power that I believe this world needs.
