We had the good fortune of connecting with Keelon Donnel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keelon, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel the main habit that continues to help me grow and succeed, is always creating when I feel like it. For me, not forcing the moment is super essential. A lot of times I think creatives get caught up in feeling the need to put in the most hours of work on whatever it it’s that they do in order to get to where they want to be, but for me, letting the creativity & ideas come to me naturally and living/working in those moments are what’s most important in my opinion.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact that I’m always going to be myself at all times. And I feel like that’s the same for every artist, if you’re being yourself, then you’re automatically going to be set apart from everyone. I’m currently excited about the release of and upcoming project that The Village has been creating since August of 2021, I feel this project is something that everyone, in our region especially, will gravitate towards . Something that I want everyone to know about AstroHop is that it’s not only a sound, but that it’s also a place, a mood, a spirit, AstroHop represents being at peace and having maximum control of this peace at all times.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well considering that I’m a homebody and so are my close friends, it won’t take much for us to have a good time. We would probably grab food from Razzoos, maybe hit the gym to play basketball sometime during the day, find a nice record store to shop for some vinyl, preferably Forever Young Records in Grand Prairie, then end the night with making some music and having great conversation.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to Shoutout my parents first and foremost. Also my brother who is definitely someone I always wanted to be like as a kid growing up. My guys Sean Lexima and Shaad who are part of our collective known as ‘The Village’. Khrysis of The Soul Council who has been a big help in some of the opportunities I’ve been presented recently. Sean Boog for believing me and my sound, and also everyone who continues to show love and support to what myself and my guys have going on.
