We had the good fortune of connecting with Kazima Wajahat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kazima, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am professionally a Speech Language Pathologist. It was my passion, my reason to breathe, my purpose for waking up in the morning. What I didn’t realize at the time is that passions change according to your circumstances and your mindset in that particular point in time. After a while, I started feeling burnt out and began wanting to do something more fulfilling creatively and make a bigger impact. I wanted to work for myself and tap into my creative passion. What I thought was merely a hobby began to be my passion, my reason to breathe, my purpose for waking up in the morning. I realized my hobby was my passion. And at that point in time I wanted this passion to become my business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a children’s book author and SLP. At this point, I feel like I am only working as an SLP to fund my passion as a children’s book author to earn capital until it becomes self-sustaining. It hasn’t been easy as I used to work full time as an SLP during the day and by night I was working on writing and the business side of being a self-published author, such as marketing and PR. What I will say is that it doesn’t happen overnight. And sometimes it takes years of constantly hustling while constantly feeling that you’re “stuck” in one place until it finally happens and you finally start moving forward. It’s cliche but “don’t give up” really means don’t ever give up. Also, taking risks especially when it feels like everything is on the line is scary, but to get somewhere you have to get out your comfort zone. No one successful ever got anywhere by sitting comfy in bed. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This may not be the norm but I’m all about nature. I love hiking in the woods, sitting by lakes, feeding the ducks, and watching the sunset. One of my favorite spots currently is this little lake in Flower Mound hidden behind this neighborhood. It’s like one of those places no one really knows about. You have to walk through this forest-y area to get to this lake. I believe it’s connected to Grapevine lake on the other side. If you go right when the sunsets it is the most beautiful sight with the red and orange hues of the sun reflecting against the water. Afterwards, about five minutes away there is a little gelato place to end the night with. Really, just give me nature and ice cream and we’ll be good. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
After my family unwavering support, I have a couple friends that always have my back and are ready to give honest feedback, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Professionally, I would have to give credit to the Guy Raz podcast and his book. Really helped me come out of my comfort zone and realized that when you think it may be the end it really only is the beginning.
