We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylee VerVynck and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I got married we moved to Texas three days after we had our wedding in South Dakota; however, I struggled to get a job because I was pregnant. I had always loved photography so I had that as a hobby but I ended up getting a part time job with a real estate agent doing some graphic design work and some little projects for her and I decided to just try starting my own photography business in order to bring in more income for our family.

I ended up connecting with Sarah Caldwell Photography out of Arkansas and tagged along for a shoot she had at the stock yards and that’s how I found my passion for the western fashion industry. From there I started reaching out to brands and influencers and got the ball rolling.

I wanted something I could bring my baby with me while I worked and I have literally brought her everywhere I go since the day I started my business. I am so grateful that I was able to achieve that, while also contributing to our families income at the same time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the western industry what sets me apart is that I have brought the high fashion editorial feel to my work and I have been intentional with making sure every brand I shoot for is set apart and each have their own unique vibe.

I am most proud of the relationships I have built with the brands and models I have worked with over the years.

I am most excited about my goal of transitioning my brand to working more with micro fashion designers in addition to boutiques/wholesales. I want to break out into this new side of my business because I love that the fashion world has no limits to their creativity and I want to showcase their hard work and shine a light on it in a way that feels authentic to their vision while also not having a limit to my own creativity.

I want the world to know that if you want to do something then you just have to start, its not easy and it takes real effort and not quitting but in the end its so rewarding to look back on where I started and seeing how far I have come now. I never dreamed that I would have this opportunity to work with my daughter by my side and all the incredible people I have met and collaborated with. I am excited to even have the option of breaking into a new side of my business while also continuing to nurture the relationships I have already built.

In a nutshell “YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a FOODIE and love to shop so we are gonna be EATING and shopping the entire time haha!

I would start off with breakfast and coffee at Summer Moon Coffee – my go to drink order is their iced quarter moon and Emma’s (my daughter) is their egg bites and I get one of their specialty bread options like their lemon bread.

Then we are gonna walk around University Park Village and do some shopping/sight seeing as they have a little bit of everything so there is something for everyone.

For our mid morning snack we are gonna head across the street to Mamaka Bowls – they are SO SO SO good! I love their coffee/fruit one!

Then we will head to Highland Park Village in Dallas to grab lunch at Sedelle’s for their delicious food and absolutely adorable aesthetics; its a photographers dream!

For Dinner we are going to head to the Bishop Arts District to Paradiso for the girly feel amongst their aesthetics and plants we will feel like we are eating in luxury and their food and cocktails are DELISH!

For nighttime entertainment we are going back to the hotel to get our PJs on and watch movies and head to bed like old ladies! HAHA!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Photographer Mentors

Sarah Caldwell Photography – Brand work and helped me find my love for western fashion and encouraged me to create the business that worked best for me; which I am so grateful for.

Jaci Vigil – I actually traded having my engagement photos done for a mentorship session with her. She really helped me with learning my camera, how to use editing software, and how to run my actual business.

Brand Shoutouts

Home Folk is my longest running brand that I have worked with and Emile really just let me run with my ideas and learn along the way and I am so grateful she gave me the chance all those years ago.

Milagro Turquoise and Myelia really allowed me the opportunity to branch out into more of a high fashion feel and she allows me the creative space to run with ideas and push the limits of my photography which has really allowed me to grow.

Influencer Shoutouts

Heather Ray – @prettygrittyliving on IG was the first model I ever shot photos of. She was kind, patient, and encouraging while I was learning to shoot a model. She really helped me learn and I loved that she understood my value of wanting to have a business where I could bring my baby with me.

Ashley Sorrells – She was the second model I reached out to and worked with, she was pretty new in her modeling and influencing journey and was also a mom. We learned the industry together and her kindness and friendship has literally be invaluable in my journey. I am so so grateful to have met and worked with her all these years.
