We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Tugman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Connecting with people, sharing stories and experiences, building friendships. That is what life is all about. One reason I love this career so much is the ability to do just that with every client that walks through the door. Creating a supportive environment that allows for the feeling of community to thrive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I always knew from a young age I would be in the Beauty Industry. It started with doing the hair & make- up of my life sized Barbie dolls, I remember asking for a Spa-themed Birthday party one year, and I was definitely the friend in the group that did everyones hair & make-up. I was so fortunate to be able to go to Cosmetology School while in High School and graduate with my license & diploma in 2014. Looking back, It wasn’t easy. You really have to be Self- Motivated and like my dad says have that “fire in your belly” to be successful in this industry.
I have now been a Medical Aesthetician for 7 years and a Permanent Make-Up artist for about a year and
a half. When I think about my younger-self seeing me today, She would be so proud. I get to do what I love, everyday. Making a difference in the way my client feels about themselves, Helping them to see their beauty was always there in the first place is the most rewarding part of my job. I strive with every Client to not only make an impact on an aesthetic level but also on an energetic level.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A fun weekend in Fort Worth looks like:
-Breakfast at Devivo Bros in Keller, the chicken & waffles is my go- to
-The Cookery off S. Main in Fort Worth for an amazing cooking class
-An @drinkingpaints Art class- using wine, tea, & coffee to make beautiful masterpieces
-Stopping by @817VintageHype for some thrifting
-Dinner at Coco Shrimp, the coco tacos are 10/10
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I graduated from High School and Cosmetology school in 2014 and immediately went into the work force. I was fortunate enough to work for amazing companies that aided in furthering my education in medical aesthetics. I worked side- by – side with some of the most amazing Estheticians, Beauty professionals, and Massage therapists that took me under their wing to help guide me in the real world. The knowledge I’ve gained from the professionals in this industry is invaluable. I would love to Shout Out Misty Willis at Pickture Perfect Brows for essentially making me her protege, She taught me everything I know in the Permanent Make-Up industry. If not for the support and encouragement of others, I’m not sure where I would be right now.
