We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Harts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kay, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business came from a mix of passion, necessity, and purpose. I’ve always loved baking! It’s my creative outlet and a form of therapy for me. Over time, I realized that I could turn something I genuinely enjoy into a way to support my family and bring joy to others. My thought process was simple: I wanted to share something meaningful while staying true to myself. Starting small and focusing on high-quality, homemade products felt like the perfect way to combine my skills, creativity, and values.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is expressed through baking and storytelling, each reflecting my journey and the experiences that have shaped me. What sets me apart is the deep connection I create through my work. Baking, for me, is more than just a skill. It’s a form of therapy and self-expression. Every recipe I develop tells a story, blending my love of food with the intention to bring joy and comfort to others.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come despite the challenges I’ve faced. I’ve served my country with honor, completing two combat deployments. As a mother, I’ve navigated the unique needs of my two incredible children—my daughter, a stroke survivor, and my son, who lost his biological mother when he was only 8 years old.
I’ve also survived horrific assaults during my time in the military and throughout my life. These experiences could have broken me, but instead, they’ve shaped my resilience and strengthened my faith.

Discipline has been one of the most important lessons in my life. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about talent. Talent might give you an advantage ahead, but discipline and determination truly make the difference. I’ve seen people with less natural ability outshine those with more because they had the perseverance to keep pushing forward.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that everything I create reflects my resilience and passion. While my journey has had challenges, sharing my struggles is not about seeking pity but showing strength and finding beauty in growth. My work is driven by a purpose greater than income. I’m using my craft to heal, inspire, and remind others that no matter how tough life gets, there’s always a reason to keep pushing forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, we’d eat our way through the city (l0l) and get lost in every bookstore we could find.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe none of us achieve success alone, and I am incredibly grateful for the people and influences that have shaped my journey. First and foremost, I dedicate my shoutout to my husband and children, who are my biggest cheerleaders and constant source of inspiration. Their love and support give me the strength and motivation to keep pushing forward.

I also owe a great deal of gratitude to my faith in God, which has guided me through challenges and given me purpose and direction in all that I do.

Beyond my family, I want to recognize the veteran community, especially my sisters-in-arms who have served this country alongside me and continue to face silent battles with mental health issues. Their resilience and courage inspire me every day to advocate for awareness and support.
