We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Fawkes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say that the most important factor behind the success of Ecamm is our community. We have an incredible group of live streamers, video producers, virtual presenters, podcasters, and more.

Since video is so visual and is meant to be shared, our customers (affectionately called the Ecamm Fam) help spread the word about our business every time they create a video using Ecamm Live. We help them look and feel their best and they carry that forward by helping others get to the same feeling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wow! A lot of questions here.

When I first left university, I wanted nothing more than to be a published author and/or to work in the publishing industry. I’ve always loved stories and storytelling. Although I haven’t (yet) reached my goal of publishing a book of my own, I have had the pleasure of working in publishing. Immediately following school, I worked as a copywriter for a small ad agency and moved from job to job learning more about writing, websites and technology, and storytelling. As it turns out, I found my place telling stories through technology – first social media marketing and now video, live streaming, and podcasting. The medium may have changed over the years, but the love of storytelling has stayed strong.

There were certainly challenges along the way, but I’ve found that what matters most are the people. Make good connections, find a group of colleagues who you can bounce ideas off of and get vulnerable with, and never ever feel bad about asking questions. My colleague, Doc Rock, always says to prioritize learning one new thing every day.

The one thing I’d love everyone to know about me and my story is that I’m where I am because of the village of people who believed in me, supported me, answered my questions, showed up and cheered me on, and just listened to me when things were tough. Find that village (and be that village) and you’ll find your success, too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I kind of think you’re asking me about Dallas, which I actually don’t know a lot about. Sorry!

I grew up in Montreal and live in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Amesbury is nestled right against the New Hampshire border and is a stone’s throw away from Maine, New York, and even Quebec. What I love most about Amesbury is that it has a downtown that feels like it came out of a Hallmark movie. We have an incredible array of restaurants and shops and our Chamber of Commerce is always supporting city-wide events like a live music in the park, family movie nights, Oktoberfest, and so much more.

I’d likely take my best friend out for coffee and pastries at Market Square Bakehouse, where we’d sit outside by the river and laugh and talk. We then would head over to Cider Hill Farm for apple picking and hayrides. We’d pop into Hoppy’s Cantina for tacos and margaritas for lunch, and then stroll the rail trail in the afternoon. Dinner would be at Flatbread Pizza followed by window shopping at Lee’s (they have such gorgeous home decor).

For the rest of the trip, we’d use Amesbury as a home base as we toured around other local cities including Salem, Portsmouth, Kittery, Portland, and more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out the Ecamm Fam. This group of live streamers, content creators, podcasters, and video professionals shows up every day to support one another. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to work with them and makes my job easy.
