We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Kobussen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kate, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a business owner who transitioned from a “once upon a time stay at home mom”, I think work-life balance plays a HUGE role in my business. I chose to start Order from Chaos, LLC because I wanted something for ME. Something that filled my cup and allowed my brain to fire again. I do, however, refuse to let it steal away time with my little family. I have two kids and a traveling husband, so when we all have time together – everything else goes on the back burner.

One of the amazing things about my business is the incredible team we have built. My “girls” (though we do actually have one guy now too…but it’s a habit I just can’t break) are incredible! They are joyful, hardworking, hilarious, detail-oriented, and incredibly trustworthy AND they allow me the treasure of a break to spend time with the people who matter most in my life!

Another thing I chose to enact very early on are scheduling boundaries. I appreciate that some people have a timeline that is only conducive to weekend and evening work, and that is AWESOME!! But! I do let those potential clients know, very early in the process, that I may not be a good fit for them. We don’t work weekends or late nights. Family time (that of mine and of those who work for me) is precious and is honored by Order from Chaos, LLC.

What should our readers know about your business?
Order from Chaos, LLC is a luxurious concept, born out of necessity. With a family as on-the-go as mine, everything NEEDS to be in order or things fall apart. The more ordered, simplified, and beautiful my home is, the more cool, calm, and collected I feel as a momma.

I spent 12 years as a stay at home mom / homeschool teacher before I realized that I needed something else in my life, to fill my personal bucket. I have always wanted to serve others and have put such an emphasis on surrounding myself with beautiful things – but never knew how to pull it together. I’m not a designer or a stylist (I like to say I think in grid form) but I can play a mean game of tetris with my belongings. Tie it all up with a beautiful basket or bin, and a brand-spanking new label, and OfC was BORN!

Over the last two years, OfC has morphed, in the best ways possible. We have started to cater to more of a luxury-minded clientele, allowing us to incorporate new intricacies into our organizing. We have also taken the leap into the world of “white-glove moving concierge services” by delicately and functionally packing and unpacking homes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Though I work a lot inside of Dallas, I’m not as familiar with the city as I would like to be. Instead! I’d love to tell you about my special place – just a little outside of the city – my town of Rockwall:

My Top 3 FAVE places in Rockwall (RIGHT NOW…it changes hourly):

1. Wren + Willow – Rockwall has a TON of adorable boutiques located in their town square. It’s a hidden gem, in my opinion. Wren + Willow is my fave though! The girls who work there are so helpful and so adorable and they have helped this (almost 40’s old lady) find some pretty kick-butt outfits! They have a huge range of items to fit all budgets and some of the cutest gifts EVER! (https://thewrenwillow.com/)

2. Casa Mama – As far as small town squares go, Rockwall hit the jackpot with amazing dining options too! Casa Mama is my current fave because what Texan doesn’t enjoy a cute little patio when enjoying their chips and guac? Throw in a margarita or a glass of wine, and I’m set for the next few months! 3. Bonafide Betties – One word. PIE! And not just any pie, but the best pie you’ve ever tasted. And cookies as big as your face! This is the cutest little shop that sells the most scrumptious treats know this side of the bridge!!! (https://www.bonafidebettiespieco.com/public)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many incredible people in my life, worthy of this shoutout. Those who’ve helped me form the business. Those who’ve helped me fill the business. And. Those who’ve helped me run the business. So this is a TOUGH CHOICE!

One person in my life comes out above the rest, however, and that’s my mom. Nancy is a BA Packing Babe!!! From Day 1 this chick ran her life like a boss. She is incredibly organized, well-rounded, and well liked. She proved to me, at a VERY early age, that all things are possible. She also taught me how to pack a mean box!!! To this day, she still insists on helping me on most of our pack jobs – she’s basically the China + Crystal Whisperer. So, SHOUTOUT to my momma! Thank you for ALWAYS believing in me and supporting my dreams…even when I’m almost 40!
