We had the good fortune of connecting with Karletha Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karletha, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is necessary because nothing can substitute experience and without risk, we limit our experiences. I took a risk in opening my business and an even bigger risk by writing my book and opening up my wounds to the world.
Its been scary, but it creates an opportunity for others to do the same.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Im very proud to have released my first book since my last interview. It took me 10years to write my book and although over the years I was hard on myself for procrastinating, I realized my story was still being written in that time. I was still experiencing things that continued to mold me and heal me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Dallas! There are so many hidden gems in the city that I am still finding, but I do have my favorite places. Yoga in one of the many beautiful parks or at Ronald Kirk pedestrian bridge. I love doing yoga at Glendale park. Im from Oak Cliff, so Glendale will always hold a sweet spot in my heart. Followed by brunch at Maraco’s in deep ellum. Lunch would be at Klyde Warren park, followed by jazz music at Sandaga and dinner at 3 Eleven kitchen and cocktails.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I will always dedicate my story to my sister, Deanna Cook. Without the tragedy and the experience it created for me, I would not be where I am today. Sometimes pain brings purpose.
