We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Vidales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business when I was really young. I was about 15-16 years old whenever I started doing makeup. Back then I never thought it would be how it is now, I started just doing makeup for my friends & family then it quickly turned into a business where I started taking clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started doing makeup about 9-10 years ago. It all started after my quinceañera (bad makeup experience lol) which made me want to get into makeup. I started practicing with my family & friends. Shortly after starting my Instagram I started booking actual clients. I take pride in making all my clients feel comfortable in my chair, making them feel welcomed like if they were family. Consistency is key, you have to keep posting and being active and interact with your clients. I’ve learned that you can’t please everyone, my makeup style might not be for everyone and that’s okay. You’ll find the clients that love YOUR style. Doing makeup on my clients is so relaxing and therapeutic to me. I love connecting with them & getting them ready for their special events. It’s truly an honor being chosen to glam someone for their wedding day or any special event. Recently I just graduated esthetician school to add more services to serve my clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First & foremost breakfast! I love a good breakfast/brunch spot. We would start off by going to first watch or yolk. Visit downtown Fort Worth/stockyards or alliance area, do a little shopping & grab lunch. Some of my favorite lunch spots are del friscos grille, sushi axiom, cafecito & any taco spot lol. Dinner, depending on what they’re craving. My family’s favorite dinner spots are Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Buffalo bros, & Salt grass. Fun things to do, stock yards, the truck yard, some bars in 7th st (I don’t go out out much now #mom life lol) top golf is a fun place too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shilpa_makeup & yeseniaindividuality These 2 makeup artists kind of took me under their wing whenever I was first starting out freelancing. They reached out to me via Instagram and took me along to do makeup whenever they had a large group of clients.
