We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Bridgwaters BSN, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, how do you think about risk?
Taking calculated risks can lead to new opportunities and personal growth whether in your professional or personal life. Although risks can carry uncertainty, there are powerful lessons that come and you have to choose how to use those lessons. In my experience of taking risks, I’ve experienced some expected and unexpected setbacks, but I’ve learned that my experiences are powerful tools that help me gain resilience and develop better problem solving skills. Without risk, there is no reward and that is factual. The good and bad experiences I’ve had with risk continue to carry me closer to my goals, and without that I would be nowhere, so I continue to press on, meet the challenges that come, and strike a balance that aligns with risks and taking cautious approaches when needed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Becoming a small business owner especially in the world of aesthetics is not easy. Success is rarely achieved overnight and it often requires perseverance, hard work and determination. I have had to be consistent in my efforts and willing to learn and grow in this industry. The most important thing is to focus on what your goals are and not on the other businesses around you. There are tons of aesthetic practices in the area I work in and I have found that not many are women of color that own their own aesthetic practice. I am proud to be a minority aesthetic injector, a Taiwanese and Black American, who can understand and treat all women of color when it comes to their skin concerns and stigmas amongst women of color getting aesthetic treatments. I love the idea of pushing for greater visibility and promoting a broader range of aesthetics.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many places in Dallas to visit so to name a few places to eat, shop and have a good time would be Restaurant Beatrice, southern/cajun food, nominated for the James Beard award, small and romantic. Nobu and Komodo for sushi. Monarch for its great city views and amazing drinks. Legacy Food Hall of outdoor entertainment and The Bishop Arts district and Trinity Groves to see artwork, good food, drinks and community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family for their unwavering support throughout my transition into aesthetics.
