We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Kaiser and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is teach my children to be kind to others. That’s a very simple phrase but it encompasses so much. To me it means loving and accepting people just as they are, advocating for those who don’t have a voice, and sharing what we have with others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began writing poetry in the fall of 2022 as a way to ensure I was doing something creative. It began as a challenge I created for myself, to write one poem a month in response to the monthly sermon series at my church. Once I began writing, I found it hard to stop! The ideas just kept coming and I just kept writing poems and posting them online. I published my first book, Homecoming: Poetic Reflections of Grace upon Grace, in February 2023 and my second book will be available in the fall.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I’m not writing, I love to spend time outdoors. Some of my favorite places to visit are Little Elm Beach to play in the sand and enjoy the water, Limestone Quarry for a hike (be sure to find the waterfall!), and the Frisco Railyard for drinks and live music.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The majority of my poems have been inspired by the wonderful congregation at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church in Frisco and I am so grateful for the way the staff and church members lead by example when it comes to loving this world and creating a home for everyone.
