We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamran Maddela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kamran, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to be my own boss because I like to have the freedom to do things my own way. Once I found my passion in barbering I just put the work in and ran with it. I’ve grown and accomplished a lot, but there’s still always going to be room to grow more. However I’m enjoying each step of building my brand from the ground up.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a self employed barber, it’s hard to develop a new skill and even harder to get people to trust you to perform to their standards. My biggest accomplishment to me is that I just didn’t quit and continue to keep going and growing. Not only have I continued to master my craft but my business and clientele just keeps growing. It’s easy to be discouraged when business is slow or things aren’t necessarily going my way… but persistence and consistency is the key. It always pays off in the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to party and Dallas is definitely a good city to do that. Deep ellum or uptown Dallas are always fun if you’re looking to club. 7th street in Fort Worth as well. For food I enjoy going to the little Korea town in carrolton or Hurtados BBQ in Arlington.
And if you want to see the best sports in the world we have the Cowboys and Rangers in Arlington; and the Stars and Mavericks in Dallas !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest inspiration to become a barber would have to be my childhood barber OJ and his brother Jesus. They brought so much light to my life as a kid and showed me that barbering can be more than just the physical act of cutting hair. I’d look forward to their jokes, their advice, and just the conversation they brought to each appointment. They inspired me to bring not only a great haircut but a great experience to every client that sits in my chair. Also, all the barber friends I’ve made who encourage me to be better and keep going.
And someone close to me, Daniela. I wouldn’t have finished school, got my career started, or accomplished a lot of what I have without her. She’s one of my biggest inspirations and supporters.
