We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamille Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamille, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing that outsiders may be unaware of is that the Miss America organization is actually a scholarship program that provides educational opportunities for young women. Contestants are judged not only on their physical appearance, but also on their talents, intelligence, and community involvement.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a Miss Texas Teen local titleholder (Miss Collin County’s Teen) I am a part of the largest scholarship organization for young women in America, the Miss America Organization. It provides young women with opportunities to develop their personal and professional skills, as well as to give back to their communities through various service projects. My community service initiative “It’s Ok to say…I’m not OK,” Mental Health Advocacy, being my primary focus. I educate all ages on the importance of Mental Health while sharing my personal story. While the path to becoming a titleholder & advocate may be challenging at times the experience is rewarding and empowering. The lessons I’ve learned along the way such as the importance of hard work, perseverance, and the ability to stay true to oneself in the face of adversity. Despite facing obstacles such as growing up in a single-mother home and being a survivor of abuse, I have remarkable resilience, intelligence, and drive. My academic achievements are a testament to my dedication and hard work, and my participation in the Miss Texas Teen Scholarship Program demonstrates my commitment to being a role model and making a positive impact in her community. By breaking barriers and pursuing my dreams, I am showing other young women of color that anything is possible with determination and perseverance. I hope to be a shining example of the potential that exists within all of us, regardless of our background or circumstances.
