We had the good fortune of connecting with Kalee Goodman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kalee, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Having a balance between work and personal life is extremely important to me. I truly enjoy working with my clients but early in my career I did notice that I did not have a healthy work life balance and felt early stages of burn out. Experiencing burn out early on and having a child forced me to look at my schedule and create healthy boundaries in order to not place all my energy in one section of my life. My schedule at work is Monday-Thursday which provides me an extra day at home with my son. I also try to make sure I have breaks through out my work day to take care of myself. I have found that making sure I have balance during my week has provided myself with peace. I believe it is important to do regular balance checks in your life to maintain a healthy work-life structure.

What should our readers know about your business?
There are amazing therapists in the North Dallas area but I believe what sets me apart and what I am most proud of are the two areas of focus. Individuals who struggle with Eating Disorders and mom’s who are struggling with postpartum anxiety and depression. These are two areas I am truly passionate about and feel so blessed that I can combine two of my passions into my work. My past experience has been working in treatment centers for all levels of care for eating disorder recovery. I feel that working in a treatment center has prepared me for outpatient care, as a therapist you hear and experience a lot. I have had several clients tell me they did not feel judged when telling me their behaviors and I believe it is due to the exposure of working in a treatment center. For my postpartum professional journey I have taken several courses and the Maternal Mental Health Certificate Training for Mental Health and Clinical Professionals with the Postpartum Support International. Education, training, and experiences have prepared me to help others through their journey of life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love going out for brunch or just getting a good cup of coffee. I live in the McKinney area, which has amazing little coffee and breakfast spots. My family and I enjoy being outside, so you can probably expect a walk at a nature reserve; we would also have to bring my golden retriever puppy, Waffles!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly my family deserves a lot of credit for where I am now. They have always supported my journey as a therapist and now owning my own practice. Every time I discuss a new professional dream, instead of being told “ I shouldn’t do it” they become excited with me.
